Was recently accepted to Northwestern to major in Communication Studies, and am currently on the waitlist at both Yale and Duke.

So here’s my deal: I love business and running own companies, and I am certain I will be working with something that involves marketing, which is my biggest interest within business. I am an international student who is eligible for aid at all these schools.

And here’s the deal:

Northwestern: major in Communication studies, minor in Business Institutions and certificate in Integrated marketing communications. Curriculum quite liberal artsy.

Yale: liberal arts with major in something “random” (maybe Sociology?)

Duke: liberal arts with random major and certificate in Markets & Management Studies.

What do you think I should choose? Would it be stupid to choose Northwestern over a school like Yale?

Congrats on NWU! But like les said, you don’t have a choice to make as of today. If and when Duke or Yale make an offer – and I’m sure you’re fully aware that they may never contact you – then you decide.

Circumstances will change from today and into the summer. You might get a call in June. But what if one of those others contact you in the middle of August – when you’re about ready to move to Evansville?

Many things will need to transpire before you truly have to choose between them and NWU.

Look–at best, you will hear from Yale and Duke sometime in late-May to late-June. Forget them for now; know that if Yale comes calling, you should 100% go. Not so much the case with Duke, since NU is certainly quite strong in your area of interest. Now, the other issue you must consider is that Yale and Duke may not offer you much financial aid, even if you get off the waitlist (very unlikely, to be frank), so you have to be absolutely prepared to go to NU.
And as the others have mentioned, for now, as hard as it might be, pretend you were rejected from Yale and Duke. Enroll in NU, and cross your fingers and wait.

It may be extremely hard to get off the waitlist at schools like Yale. It is even harder as an international. But as an international applying for aid…well, unless you got 2410 on the SAT, I would not think about it too much.
[P.s. As we all know, college admissions could be a synonym for “randomness”. So who knows…:)]
