What makes you think that doing CS at any of the top schools is any different in terms of stress/fun? You will have to slog from the get go if you intend to excel. It is finally dependent on the individual to make the best of what the school provides. Each school has its strengths. In the case of UMich, it is the alumni network. Does it outweigh access to a city and what it offers as in the case of GTech?
My D2 chose GTech over UMich (and UCB) and one of the reasons was the difference in COA (in her case it was $11k per year). This may not be substantial in the long run but will pay for half a year of Business school that she intends to attend after a few years of work experience. She is a Freshman doing ChemE and has been able to balance the heavy workload with the social aspects of college life very well. Let me know if you need any additional info.
