University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

Hello prospective Michigan applicants!

I just finished my HAIL interview a few minutes ago, so I’m going to share a bit of my experiences for anyone else who will have an interview with the school in the coming days.

The interview I had was less of an “interview” and more of an informal conversation with an alumni. It lasted pretty long (1 hr. 14 min. for me), but it was a pretty good experience. I got to know more about the school, and the school got to learn more about me. Just remember to not sweat it too much; it’s just an informal interview and will have no negative impact on your application!

Here are some of the questions that I was asked:
(1) Why U of M?
(2) Why are you interested in your intended major?
(3) What other schools have you applied to/will apply to in the future?
(4) What do you hope to bring to the U of M community?
(5) What do you hope to get out of college?
(6) If you had to tell something about yourself to the admissions officers right now, what would you say? i/i What was your favorite high school memory?
(8) What was your favorite class? Your least favorite class?
(9) What are some of your extracurricular activities?
(10) What are some of your leadership skills?
(11) How do you spend your free time? What are some of your hobbies?
(12) Do you have any siblings? What role do they play in your life?
(13) Is there anything else that you would like to tell us?

Last but not least, remember to have some questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the school! All in all, this interview is an opportunity for you to get to know the school better, so don’t waste it! In the end, the conversation you have should be a memorable and fun experience (and good practice for any interview that you will have in the future).

If you have any questions, just PM me! I’ll try to get back to you.
