I want to give hardy -yes- to your lists of books. Especially Jeff Denmen’s book on his experience with “The Producers” - Jeff is a friend of mine - he can use the sales! (it really is a great read)

But seriously, your choice of schools is serious business and should not be left to secondary sources. You need to spend the time to make many visitations - and when you make your own “short list” please take the time to see those college’s productions. The proof is in the pudding - if you are putting on the stage for public consuption - your saying and showing what you are all about.

When it comes to auditions - books again are great - but each institution is unique. ..call the person running the audition and ask what is expected at their particular school.

Finally, it seems to me musical theatre has three components singing, dancing, and acting - to be effective training must be in “triple threat” model - so, any school that does not audition you in all three areas should raise a flag. I know many reputable schools only sing and read - yet, in the last twenty years the business has evolved to a “triple threat” world.
