Coach: Mary Anna Dennard (a.k.a. Moo)

Summer Programs: Beginnings Workshop, Stagedoor Manor, South Florida Dance Co. Dance Intensives

We really began this journey two years ago in 2012 when my older S was auditioning for college BFA MT programs. For both sons we hired coach Mary Anna Dennard which was the best decision we made. Although we had done a lot of research and compiled a list of schools to apply to, Mary Anna streamlined our list and suggested other schools to add, one of which S1 ended up choosing…Rider University (which he loves). Participating in Moo’s group auditions (Moonifieds) held in November gave both boys an opportunity to do live prescreens, final auditions and receive some early acceptances.

After Moonifieds, S2 attended his first on-campus audition on Saturday, January 11 at Texas State University. It was Texas State’s first on-campus auditions of the year and we were impressed by how informative the overview was and how well organized the entire day proceeded. In fact, everyone was so friendly and welcoming we left the audition with fingers crossed to hopefully receive an offer in March. S2 had accompanied S1 to many of his on-campus auditions two years ago as well as Moonifieds and Unifieds in the hopes it would help him narrow down his choices when it was his turn to audition. Texas State was already at the top of his list, but after the on-campus audition there was no question it was his #1 school.

The day after his Texas State audition (January 12) we were traveling home and received a call from Kaitlin Hopkins offering S2 a spot in the TSU BFA MT program!! We were surprised, excited and truly felt so lucky to have S2 be offered acceptance into his top choice program so early in the audition season. Although he had many other auditions scheduled and had already received some amazing offers, he knew he had found his new home at TSU and immediately accepted! We are happy to say we have already been warmly welcomed by the Texas State family, and are looking forward to S2 making great friends and growing as a person and performer over the next four years.

Congratulations!

Congrats and welcome. Moo crew rocks the auditions again!!

How wonderful! Congratulations!

Congrats!..I can’t believe this thread has started…the end is almost here…kinda scary and bittersweet!

Thanks everyone! I just realized I forgot to mention the reasons behind my son’s decision to accept the TSU offer lol! First of all he absolutely loved Kaitlin Hopkins, Jim Price and all of the incredible faculty. He felt that this was a strong “triple threat” program and was highly impressed with both masterclasses he attended at the auditions (his brother’s audition two years ago and his this year). He also loved the variety of courses offered (directing, playwriting, film/TV etc.) and the philosophy of a program geared to the individual student. The climate played a role as well because we are from Florida and he is used to warmer weather, and the campus is quite pretty. The fact that TSU is a larger school but the MT program is small seemed like the perfect combination for him. The TSU students in the Department of Theatre and Dance were extremely friendly, informative and supportive of all those auditioning, and he could see that they all loved their program. Lastly, the cost of tuition was a major plus making the value of the program is outstanding. We can’t wait to see this thread blow up with all those posting their happy news in the days and weeks to come.

oops! program outstanding*

Summer Programs: Texas Musical Theater Workshop (Junior Year) The Performing Arts Project -TPAP (Senior Year)

We really began this journey two years ago in 2012. My D attended Texas Musical Theater Workshop at the University of Texas - where by chance, she first met Kaitlin Hopkins and Jim Price and others on the faculty.

She again ran into the TSU faculty the next summer at TPAP, again by chance. Although many other MT programs where there too. As a side note- her TPAP auditions were at TSU, where by chance some of the TSU faculty were guest auditors.

She applied to every school imaginable it seems - we started early and never let up her senior year. We had several auditions done by December. And went on campus when we could.

The call from Kaitlin and Jim was unbelievable! We are so happy! My D accepted on the spot!!!
We believe for many reasons…it’s the best program in the country! And we feel honored and amazed that our daughter will be part of the program.

<:-P Such great stories!

Congratulations and welcome to the TSU MT family! We have been celebrating for over a month now since son accepted on the spot yet still cannot believe the process is over. So happy for your D and we are looking forward to meeting you all in the near future!
