Just FYI, Texas State, Shenandoah Conservatory, Relativity School, and University of Northern Colorado are holding joint walk-in auditions at Pearl Studios, 500 8th Ave., room 409 from 10-4 on January 25th, 2015.

I still don’t understand how programs that have a prescreen can talk walk-ins. It’s so confusing/irritating. Can anyone explain please?
And P.S. the summer program, Broadway Dreams is taking “pop up” walk-ins in NYC during Unifieds. You have to contact them for a time/location.
Notmath1, I’ve wondered about that too! Have heard a couple of things: (1) some schools use the walk-in as a live prescreen and then invite those who pass it to audition on campus later; and (2) one school I hear about made it possible to conduct a walk-in audition but then still required a video “prescreen” to be submitted after the fact (this seemed counterintuitive, but I heard it from a parent who went through it). I’d love to know what other schools do.
I think if you pass a prescreen you have a specified appointment time, and definitely get to audition. If you plan to do a walk-in, it is on space available without an appointment and if all of their spaces fill up with other walk-ins or they rin out of time, you don’t get to audition.
From what Voiceteacher is saying, it sounds like the 3 schools will be auditing the audition simultaneously (like is done at SETC) allowing students to do 3 auditions in a short amount of time.
It’s even more interesting because Shenandoah is actually not doing their scheduled auditions at Pearl Studios. The students with scheduled auditions must be auditioning with someone else. And, Texas State and Shenandoah have dance calls. Northern Colorado does not. A bit confusing.
Are the program heads in the room for the live prescreen walk-ins?
OOPS… I made a mistake about UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO. They are holding their own walk-ins between 10:00 and 12:00 on SUNDAY at Pearl Studios on the 4th floor.
I can’t speak for the others about the prescreen/open call question. What I can say for SU is that an opportunity presented itself in December to be part of a group open call and we took advantage of it. It is our first time in many years doing NYC auditions, so we are doing our best to see as many people as possible. However, that is the reality of the business in general. Submitting for an audition can get you a guaranteed spot whereas you may not be able to be seen at all in an open call.
@VoiceTeacher - My D is interested in seeing if she can squeeze it in! What are the requirements? Recorded or Live accompaniment, length, monologues?
Is Texas State taking acting walk ins or only MY?

@Notmath1 some schools do not send the program heads to unified at all, even when it is a final audition. I may be wrong, but I think CCM has auditions on campus and at unifieds this weekend, so the dept. head could not be at both. Generally, they will record the auditions.
Also, at some schools even on campus the dept. head does not see every student in person. They divide the auditioners into groups and the dept head only sees his/her group of assigned auditioners. All auditions are recorded and viewed (I assume) by the dept head on the recording.
Are the NYC walk-in live prescreens being video taped?
@gingersnap97 - Two songs and a monologue.
Where (at what school) are you a voice teacher?
Shenandoah University, @shopforpunky.
