Ok, so on the other thread (about choices in wine, food, exercise) I think I found my tribe. I,too, love a glass of wine in the evenings, and have found myself buying the cheap stuff because it’s just a nightly ritual, not a special occasion. However, I’d like to think there are decent wines out there that won’t break the bank. What have you found that you enjoy and is not super pricey? I drink reds, with my new fave being Coppola (Directors) 2012 Cab…I think it’s a “win” as it’s not super pricey, but it’s still a stretch for the budget if I drink it nightly. When I’m in cheap mode, I’ll buy Yellow Tail Pinot Noir. A “win” in the budget department, but it’s not terribly smooth. So let’s share our bargain and more splurgey types of wine! Cheers!

HobNob Pinot Noir - very reasonably priced and very drinkable Meiomi Pinot Noir…not as reasonably priced but still good wine at a good price.

Apothic Red. For an $8/bottle wine, it is unbelievably good.

2012 Earthquake Zin is $19/bottle at Costco. A good deal, IMO.

If you like sweeter Riesling, there is no better value than $6 Chateau St Michelle. :)

I just bought a bottle of Renegade Red wine at the grocery store for $7.99. ( their last one)

I think I will clear out the other stores that carry it as well.
Ooh, Bunsen, I just saw that a winery that is up the road from D, has a tasting room next to the Market!
Lost River winery.

Yum.

That Earthquake Zin is always good when you can find it!

I like those price points, @emeraldkity4 and @BunsenBurner ! Going on the master list :-D

We gave a local wine store that strived to have a huge selection of wines under $20/bottle… some well under. We like to go to their Friday night wine tasting, where the selections are discounted another 10%. We have friends that often go with us. And we have started to recognize other “regulars”.

Thanks, EK!

Chateau St Michelle Cab is always delicious. Sometimes I can find it on sale for $10, but it usually runs a little bit more. Of course, cheaper in Washington state. A couple bucks more is the Chateau St Michelle Indian Wells, which is just a tiny bit better. A new one we found is Menage a Trois Midnight, delicious, but hard to find because they only made it last year, for Halloween. I did find some at Safeway though, I should get a case! A similar wine is Apothic Dark, though not quite as good, but very tasty. Both less than $10 where I got them. I really only want to drink very delicious wine nowadays, or it’s not worth my while, and I really don’t want to spend more than $12.99 a bottle, for some reason spending one cent more just seems wrong. A very good one is Charles Smith’s Steak House Cab, always cheap, a good standby.

Oh, here’s a really good one, maybe $10. It’s a Chilean wine, called Casillero del Diablo cabernet (Castle of the Devil). So rich and tasty. All these wines are found just at grocery stores such as QFC, Safeway, Fred Meyer. Nowhere fancy.

We drink willamett valley Pinot Gris, usually king estate. Somewhere around $15 a bottle.

Life is too short to drink cheap wine!

Family rule is we don’t buywine w a mammal on the label, only exception is anything from Stags Leap in CA

Current everyday wines here are Rodney Strong Chardonney (Got for $11.17 at Total Wine last week) and Estancia Cab (under $13). If you insist on cheap 1.5l bottles, I findBarefoot is the best of the bunch.

I stumbled across Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealands Marlborough region a couple of years ago. In particular I like Kim Crawford. It is usually in the $16 or so range, but I buy it on sale for about $10 - $11.

Now and then I like to indulge in a bottle of amarone. It’s not something you’d drink every night
<a href=“Amarone - Wikipedia”>http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarone
It’s more costly than a conventional red, but not ridiculously so.

Cin cin

Another vote for Riesling, chateau st Michelle is the absolute best!

Gordon Brothers/Gordon Estates. Mmmm.

For a really reasonable 1.5 litre, I like Lindeman’s Bin 65.

Mark West for pinot noir, Cupcake or Woodbridge for chardonnay. A little higher price is Kendall Jackson or Rodney Strong for chardonnay choices. Generally, I always have an open 1.5L bottle of Woodbridge on the bar and the local price is $11.99

We have been buying a variety of South American(Chile, Argentina) Cabs lately and none have disappointed. Cheap and delicious, kind of like California wines used to be.

I buy cheap wine ($9-$12 range) by how much I like the label or just the name. None that I recall have been bad at all.

The only cheap wine I don’t like at all is Yellowtail.

For an everyday red I like Evodia. It’s an old vine grenache from Spain. It’s around $10 a bottle.

For an inexpensive white I like Vinho Verde from Portugal. But you have to like a bit of citrus and hint of fizz. It’s usually $9-12.

I also like Muscadet for sentimental reasons, but it now costs around $15 a bottle.
