Moderators I did not find a current thread for 2019, so I started one. Please let me know if there is one out there that my search did not find.
What specific Item are you looking for during Black Friday 2019? Hopefully we can help each other find the best deal for an item.
I have to find a 5 day cooler (for weekend camping, built to keep food cold for longer period of time). This will be our Christmas gift for a new Son in Law, and I would love to keep my budget at $30-40. Will NOT spend more than $50. Gottadeal.com does not show any great deals on this type of cooler yet.
I would also love to hear from folks who love their current inexpensive 5 day cooler, as we are not sure of a reputable brand to be looking for. We can NOT afford to buy the top of the line brands, like YETI.
Let me know what item you are searching for, would love to help you also.
I’d be interested to see what others recommend for “5-day cooler.” I’ve always used a cheap cooler with a bag of ice thrown in whenever we were on a camping trip during summer. Even during the hottest summer days, a bag of ice was effective for a couple of days before a new bag’s thrown in. Worked just fine for our needs. I’m all ears, though, if there’s an effective cooler that’d last several days without having to resort to bags of ice.
As for what specific items I’m looking for during this Black Friday are things related to my hobby, photography. I’m also on lookout for a large capacity microSD card for my son’s new iPad Pro as one of his X-Mas gifts.
@TiggerDad we love to shop at microcenter.com We are lucky to live near a physical store location, but they also sell online. We find that in normal non-BF months, we find the item we want, then check back often until it goes on sale.
I am not techy, but H is. He bought an open box computer last night at Microcenter for his mom. And picked up standard size 64GB class 10 SD cards for under $7.00. What I found on their website you might want is SanDisk 128GB microsSDHC class 10 memory card with adapter on sale for $23.99.
D2 wants a Sony Alpha a6000 mirrorless Camera so I will be looking at all the electronic deals to find the best price for this.
I’m getting new ski boots, but will probably buy them this weekend at REI if I find a pair that I like since I have a 20% off there. H and I both ordered new snow boots from LL Bean at 25% off. We live in SoCal, but both of us had snow boots that were 15 or more years old that recently fell apart. Since we are taking a long ski trip in February we needed to get new boots.
I’m looking for 400GB size, but regardless of the card, it’s lot cheaper at Amazon.com, it turns out. For example:
SanDisk 400GB Ultra microSDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card at Microcenter.com is $94.99. At Amazon.com, it’s $82.79 with a card reader thrown in a bundle. Likewise with other capacity cards.
I’m looking for Wusthof Classic Ikon knives (must be “Ikon”) Had planned to get some from Williams and Sonoma but their sale price changed and each of the knives, although still ‘on sale’ went up by $20 each - ya snooze ya loose
@powercropper —honestly the coolers that really work are the really thick styrofoam ones. Ice lasts for days in those things. During a hurricane or power failure those are the go to coolers and we have some pretty nice coolers that don’t work nearly as well. The best are the ones from companies that ship meat. I pick them up occasionally at garage sales.
Powercropper - I like the Outdoor Gear Lab reviews for camping and outdoor things. I haven’t yet been disappointed by anything I bought using their recommendations. Their “Best Buy” might be what you are looking for. It’s a Coleman 5-day.
Not sure if they’re the ‘best deals’ but Costco often has items onsale the week BEFORE Thanksgiving. You can find their ads online by 3rd party websites. Might be worth a year’s membership if you aren’t already.
Not to be old fashioned, but we use whatever solid cooler and freeze blocks of ice to fit. (Ice cubes melt faster, turn into ice water.) This idea wd last my brother on 5 day cross country drives.
The cooler is a bit of a hard to discount winter purchase as they are not on most folks Christmas lists. I looked and found the 5 day Coleman for $59 or so at Target and REI. I do know exactly what you mean, as I camp for 4 overnights most summer in a mostly wilderness area sans power and very much appreciate my still cool half and half on the final day for coffee. A regular cooler, no matter how carefully packed or rarely opened fades after 2 overnights. The Yeti’s look nice but are far out of my budget as well. Mine is about 5 years old, and still works well. Too lazy to look in the basement for the brand right now, but it is a common brand, and $40 to $50 perhaps as an end of season sale. Perhaps wait till black Friday, and then check the Target or Cabella’s price for these items.
The Wusthof U.S. east coast office is in Norwalk CT, and there is a “factory store” attached that has a HUGE selection of their knives at a fraction of the retail cost. They also sharpen (any brand) knives for $2 per knife. It’s an amazing place!!
I do not know if they carry the specific type you are looking for, or if it’s near where you live…but for anyone else looking for this knife brand…it’s a great place.
Gosh, I thought Sur La Table went out of business! We had one here that I loved due to its convenient location. Either last Christmas or the year before, Dh bought something for me and remarked that he hoped I liked it since they were going out of business and I couldn’t return it. Sure enough, next time I went by, they were gone. It wasn’t a widespread chain near us (no other locations anywhere around). I used to get a catalog as well, but haven’t gotten one in a long time, so just assumed they had, as Dh said, gone out of business. I guess it was just our location that closed.
I always looked forward to their catalogs-kind of odd they stopped sending me one especially since they closed our location! You would think they’d want their existing customers to order from them since they could no longer shop at their store.
I just looked at their website-they have two locations in the greater area, but neither anywhere near me. ?. We do have Williams-Sonoma but it’s in our big mall which I despise going to.
