Does college admission care about students' immigration status?

I'm undocumented student and I'd like to know if their decision will be base on my immigration status...

I'm most concerned about UC Berkeley and UCLA because I got rejected from them before in high school...

anybody know?

Well, being state schools, UCB & UCLA are significantly more difficult to get accepted to as non-residents. Are you saying you're an illegal immigrant?

yes im illegally living here and no...im not proud of it

    omg that really sucks

so im gonna be counted as non-resident? and that decreases my chance!

Even tho I go to CCC for 2 years????

    Anybody know!!!

You definitely have a chance, because the UC's have a history of taking in undocumented immigrants.

I don't like the term "illegal immigrants", because one could easily make the argument that the white settlers are the true illegal immigrants because of all the treaties and such they broke with the Native Americans.

I wasn't aware of the UC's tendency to take undocumented immigrants. I have a question of my own - are undocumented immigrants considered international students and thus have to pay top dollar?

I'm pretty sure immigration laws weren't put in back then, and not only that; the official country of the United States wasn't really set up as well and the while you can argue that for back then, it's not exactly smart to say that for now.

LOL!! my friend, who is illegal, told me that theres a law or something that if you took HS classes here, then college tuition is the same as a resident. I even think shes paying resident fees at my CC.

I think illegal immigrants are considered to be international students. For UCB or UCLA, it is near impossible to get. But however, in the admission process, they do not require you to prove your status (from experience).

uc's are public, so i think undocumented students pay non-resident just like the out-of-state people. but, i think if u are illegal than it would be wise to conisder private unviersities as well since people usually choose uc's for lesser cost. but for u my firend, private or public doesn't matter unless some of the claims above saying undocumented pay resident fee holds true

it's true. ppl who attend HS for 3 years or more can pay in-state tuition

but i only attended for 2 years...

so I pay out of state tuition right now and no financial aid...

I didn't jump the plane or swim lol...just overstay visa...yea its bad but its more complicated than just expired visa. I don't wanna get into that.

Not being able to drive and work give me enough stress :(

wot im scared is that they r gonna consider me as out of state applicants and decrease my chance AH!

    r they gonna?
  • mojojojo69mojojojo69 - Posts: 2,571 Senior Member
well, they say that if you take 30 units at a CC, you get CC priority, and im sure they get a lot of illegal applicants, so i dont think that your chances are going to be lowered. I think you will still get priority consideration, but when it comes to financial aid, perhaps you will be considered international or something...

Good thing the Dems won congress or there'd probably be law by now making it a felony to admit you.
