Thank you! Any suggestions for more ECs will be appreciated also!

You definitely have a good range of schools for your stats. I strongly suggest retaking SAT for the superscore, and try to pull the CR up to 700+ at least. This will open up a lot more school choices, and will improve your chances for your current list.

What if I can get 35 on ACT with like 33 or 32 R? Then should I take SAT again? Also what are some suggestions for me right now?

I knew you were Asian before I read your “race” category. Think a bit about what that means.

I’m not familiar with those medical combined programs, so I won’t chance you here. I do know that many of those (I think you know which) are reaches for everyone, so a chance is fairly useless.

If you can get 33 or 32 R, definitely use your ACT instead. Your SAT is partially what made me think “this person is Asian.”

Good luck

how about my ECs and awards? would they be enough?

@jhgong

ACT works too, but I think it would be a lot easier to take the SAT again, focusing in on your CR score. I retook a 2310 (800 math, 780 writing, 730CR) and got a 790 CR the second time around for a 2370 super score, and I think retaking was one of the best decisions I made.

I think if you focus on CR a 2350+ superscore is very achievable (do a TON of practice, I started with a low CR too and it took ages to bring the score up).

and @Woandering maybe because you saw OP’s username? LOL

I don’t know about the medical programs, but as others have posted, your CR is a big red flag. Your reading score is low both on the SAT and ACT (low relative to your other scores). I recommend that you target your CR for improvement. Can you afford a few sessions with an SAT tutor? Your other scores are superior so don’t spend any time prepping for math or writing.

@puzzled123 yes that clinched it, but other than that…

How are you breathing? that’s an impressively long, extended list…
I really hope you aren’t dying.

@whye06
? I am not sure if that is a compliment but lol yeah I am alive.

@Woandering I just saw your Asian comment, and I can’t help but counter your opinion that Asians suck at/find no value in liberal arts-related subjects. As a seventh grade, I got a 780 on the CR of the SAT and a 750 on the writing section, and I’ve won national writing competitions. I’m neither a t-r-o-l-l nor a person looking to brag, but rather an Asian who’s encountered these kind of biased assumptions many times before.

@supercilious And?

I said that a student who has the stats and does the ECs the OP does tend to be Asians. I never said Asians couldn’t have different skills. You’ve flipped the causation that I implied. And in any case, I’m pretty sure we all know that these stereotypes do not cover everyone, and in some cases, do not even cover the majority. I’m also sure there are other races, whose members have a similar profile to the OP.

Nonetheless, when an admissions officer sees the OP is Asian AND has a rather stereotypical profile, the OP is at a disadvantage.

@Woandering
soooooo are you saying that all my accomplishments are very common(tbh I was quite happy and became more confident after I was selected as top 20 for chem olympiad)? Then what should I focus more on?

@supercilious
holy crap you should be really smart!

So rather than talking about Asian thingy can you guys give me some constructive advice, please?

@Woandering I see where you’re coming from, good point.

@OP if you’re really sure about medical school apply to univeristy of Missouri in Kansas City’so 6 year MD program. Yes, people may think “Missouri? I doubt that’s even a good school” but over here in the Midwest so many Asian kids want to go to UMKC although they are kind of biased and usually accepts a large amount of Indian students, it’s a great med program and pretty tough to get in although I think your stats make it a low/medium reach

Your ECs are pretty good. You should be proud: there’s nothing wrong with the predilection for science and math, as long as you genuinely enjoy those subjects. However, I do agree with the other posters in that the CR score definitely has room for improvement. It’s not so much the composite (2260) but rather the great disparity between the CR score and the other scores that might harm you. What are you getting wrong? Vocab? That’s easy to improve. Just memorize a bunch of SAT vocab. If it’s the passage-related questions, then the same question applies. Do you do particularly badly on certain types of passages? In any case, I’d suggest that you get an SAT tutor if you haven’t already.

@jumpingstar
I want to apply to schools that have 7-8 yr bs/md programs since I want to have as much experience as possible as an undergrad tbh. 6 year is toooooooooo short… But thank you for a great suggestion!

@supercilious
could you suggest some online tutoring program for SAT then? I will be gone this entire summer for chemistry study camp and research program so only time I could study is after the daily schedule by myself

Sorry, I don’t know of any online SAT programs. I personally only used the Blue Book. This may seem extreme, but if you’ve already exhausted your supply of official SAT tests, or at least College Board practice tests, do them all again. I think it’s the most direct method. Just make sure you analyze what you got wrong.

okay tbh I always got 730+ on practice and about the same for writing… I expected at least 700 on CR but my luck hit only the writing section lol

@jhgong Absolutely nothing wrong for loving what you love and being good at it. Just know that, in this medical path, you will be up against tough competition from other Asians with similar qualifications. In any case, you’re definitely up there, so you do have a solid chance at the top programs.
