Georgetown Longshot

Hello everyone! I am very new here, so please forgive me if this is not formatted ideally.

I am coming to you to hear what you all think of my chances of transferring into Georgetown (and I am very aware that it is a long shot, but just want to hear some thoughts).

I am a non-traditional student transferring from a technical community college where I will receive my transfer degree at the end of this semester. My anticipated GPA if all goes as planned this semester is a 3.65. My GPA was brought down by my first semester. I found out I was pregnant the second week of class and really struggled to make it through. However, I have demonstrated consistent growth by maintaining 4.0 semesters since. I anticipate strong letters of recommendations and essay. I will probably choose to upload my ACT score of 32 and possibly my SAT which I know is high but it’s been so long I can’t access my scores to see. I have been out of school long enough though that technically it isn’t required. I only have a couple EC’s as my baby and job take up a majority of my time, the major one is mentoring a teen mom. My desired major is psychology with a religious studies minor.

I do already live in DC, I moved over the summer for my partner’s job and to be close to his family. Also to be clear, I will also be applying to other safer schools in the area.

Thank you for reading! Is it worth applying?

Congrats on your accomplishments.

Per the last common data set, Gtown accepted 135 out of 2278 transfer applicants (around 6%).– so yes it is a longshot. If you want to attend Georgetown give it a go – your journey may resonate with them – if you don’t apply you will never know.

Be aware that Jesuit colleges typically have large core curriculum requirements (can be found online). As a transfer student it may be difficult to finish the core curriculum and graduate on time. You can compare the coursework you have taken to Georgetown’s graduation requirements.

Glad you have other schools in mind as well. Good luck.

If interested in attending Georgetown University, then you should apply.

If needed, financial aid is available for transfer students:

Also consider American University in NW DC. Attractive, safe, quiet location, but not as exciting as Georgetown’s location.

Love the optimism & determination. Goals are important.

Reminds me of when I was young and, without thought, referred to what was formally listed as a “one-hour run” as a “ten-mile run”.
