Premed after transfering

hi everyone. I transferred out of my state school to a more prestigious college in hopes of a better college experience. I’m double majoring in bio and cs so my workload has always been challenging. After coming to this more prestigious school, I realized that I prefer the academics at my old school, along with the environment, people, and social life. I think I would get a higher gpa and have a lower workload at my new school, however. I’m contemplating going back to my old school next semester (so I would only be away for 1 semester). Would this harm my med school applications? I was thinking I could spin this into a good story of my perseverance/ determination to get what’s best for me.

Wherever you go, there you are.

Why not drop one of your double majors which will reduce some of your workload and scheduling pressures-- and give you more time for friends, volunteering, and all the other things you are going to need for med school?

You can spin it any way you want… but what if you land up back in your original college pining away for your second college?

For clarity, you may want to say how the above relates to the question you have asked here.

Your other thread says you are deciding between Vandy and UMD…with no mention of transferring from one to the other and back.

Could you please clarify what is happening?

In my opinion, switching from school to school (if that is what you really are doing) doesn’t show a bit of perseverance. It actually shows the opposite. When you can’t figure out what to do…you leave.

I am confused about the exact same thing.

I am also concerned that transferring multiple times will make it look like you are having trouble making up your mind. Medical school is very demanding – both academically and otherwise. I would not expect them to look for students who are prone to giving up and going off and trying something else.

If you are currently at either UMD or Vanderbilt, and if you can afford to attend where you are, I would be tempted to stay there and work hard.

How would that be possible? UMD decisions don’t come out until late Jan and Vandy won’t release for a couple more weeks.

Can you clarify which thread is correct and which one is hypothetical/misleading?

What made you switch from UMD to Vandy?

It seems as though you transferred (maybe from UMD to Vanderbilt, if I am interpreting the posts correctly?), already, and are considering transferring back. I caution against this. There is no good way to spin it and medical school admissions expect students who handle all sorts of stressors and make the best out of situations. Stay where you are and make the best of it: take the premed courses you need, focus on one major, and meet with premed advisors to make sure you are on the right track. Both schools have excellent premed programs and advising. Do not double transfer.

I’m very confused !!!

OP stated from other thread that he/she is still deciding between UMD and Vanderbilt and that was yesterday. In addition, UMD hasn’t released the decisions yet, so is he/she already admitted to UMD and transferred to Vandy last year ?

My daughter is a junior at UMD, major in Biology and she is extremely busy with just 1 major +1 minor and extra curricular. There are plenty of research opportunities and ECs in campus. They also have pre-health advising , which is a plus. If student was accepted to ILS , there are great benefits to be part of this community, mostly premed students.

Doubling Biology and CS maybe doable but my guess is that a GAP year will be needed to build a strong application for med schools.

If you’re serious about medical school, then stay put. Focus on getting the highest GPA possible. Then study your butt off for the MCAT. Those two things matter the most. The college you attend is (largely) irrelevant.

Do you have a pre med advisor where you are studying now? I would reach out to them and discuss with them. Best of luck.
