I work on a small sustainable, women run flower farm
Intended major in Architecture with a minor in landscape studies
What are my chances of getting in?
Does Questbridge increase my chances of getting accepted over ED?
Also I live in rural MN on a small hobby farm unsure if that’s relevant or not
You might start a new thread to get more eyes on your post. Smith doesn’t offer a traditional BARCh degree that would allow you to work professionally as an architect (at least until you get a master’s degree). What are your career goals? Will you be applying to colleges with an architecture portfolio?
I don’t know if Questbridge increases your chances of acceptance at Smith. If your EFC is zero, I expect it does, but not sure. If you are considering applying via QB, that deadline is coming up relatively quickly (Sept 26) and the app is fairly involved. Have you run Smith’s net price calculator to gauge affordability? What other schools are on your list?
True, the Smith degree is a BA in Architecture, so you have to go to grad school if you want to be a Licensed Architect. On the other hand my Smithie graduated in Architecture, minor in Government, all the coursework for a minor in Landscape Studies (can’t have 2 minors). She had a solid GPA but no honors and got into Columbia for grad school on the first try. The Landscape Studies program in particular is unique and rarely available to undergrads.
Do you mean the Smith degree is NOT a BArch?
It is not a BArch. It is a BA, and the major is Art: Architecture and Urbanism.

I don’t know if I’m qualified to chance you but you sound like a smart and very interesting applicant! Your grades and scores certainly seem in range for Smith. I hope you are accepted!
Do we think ED1 decisions will be released next Friday, December 15? The “mid December” posted date makes me crazy
That seems like a reasonable guess, at least. Looks like last year they emailed applicants the week before to give them the date and time, so hopefully you’ll hear from them soon about what to expect. Good luck!
Hi there, Smith emailed and said:
Dear XX
We are writing to let you know that our Early Decision 1 admission decisions will be released on Friday, December 15 between 3 and 5 p.m. ET. On the 15th, students will receive an email notifying them of a status change to their application.
Once they receive this notice, they may log into their applicant status portal to view their decisions.
Thank you for all that you do for your students.
Best wishes,
Office of Admission

Thank you so much! I hadn’t heard! (D24 has Covid and is not on top of her emails at the moment). So exciting to have a set date!
Good luck to all!! My daughter is deciding whether or not to do ED2 to Smith and I was wondering if anyone accepted can share how accurate their Net Price Calculator results were compared to the actual financial aid package?
My daughter applied and was accepted in '22. Her total package included a STRIDE scholarship plus need-based grants. It was 5k more in award money than NPC had calculated for us.
Today is the big day! How’s everyone doing? My D24 (and I) are nervous and excited! Hoping everyone will get good news!
For those who are admitted today, congratulations! Parents, feel free to request to join our FB group, Smith College Parents and Families(private group). It is a great resource for you and is run by parents of current and recently graduated Smithies. Parents only! We look forward to hearing from you. Make sure to answer questions so you can join.
Daughter notified me about 10 minutes ago that she was accepted to Smith ED. The proposed financial aid package came in about 7 - 10k more than the net price calculator (don’t remember the exact NPC number), but we should be able to swing it.
By way of background, daughter has always been homeschooled, but has taken a number of college STEM courses and received A’s in all of them (Calc I, Calc II, Multivariate Calc, Differential Equations, Linier Algebra, Physics I, and Astronomy). She did this because she thought it would be a good way of showing academic rigor. Additionally, she originally thought that she would want to pursue engineering, but has since fallen in love with botany. But Smith has remained on the top of her list.
Good luck to all. I am just glad that the search for us is over.
D24 accepted! Very excited! I look forward to joining the parent group!
