Wow, so today I just kind of discovered Amherst.
Of course I've known of Amherst (one of my friends actually goes there), but I had never considered it as a possible college choice for myself.

It looks beautiful, and it seems to be a very good school in the Social Sciences area, which is what I plan to study.
Is this true?

And why is it always missing from lists of national college rankings?
It seems to only appear on lists of liberal arts colleges.

Anyway, I was wondering if I have a chance at getting accepted to Amherst this year (Class of 2011). Candid assessments are appreciated.

It's only on the list of liberal arts colleges because that's what it is. It is in a different category than the national universities. They differ in that liberal arts colleges do not have graduate programs, or very small ones if they do. Your statistics and extracurriculars put you in the range of possibility, but ED will increase your chances.

No one can say for sure about elite admissions. Work on those essays - they are critical at Amherst, since there ar eno interviews. Good luck!
