CSU Early Action/Decision

songuji4songuji4 Registered User Posts: 32 Junior Member
Hello! So my question is if there's a special process in being admitted early into ANY CSU (preferably CSUS, CSUN, SDSU, and CSULB) and if so what is it? Do I have to apply at an earlier date? If there isn't anything I can do in order to get my admission decision faster than also please tell me that!

I thought it would also be helpful to provide by GPA, SAT, and EI because I'm pretty sure Early Decisions are reserved for those students who show advanced academic profiles

weighted, a-g courses GPA: 4.35 (this is the one used in CSUs, right?)
SAT: 1280 (600 Reading + Writing, 680 Math)
EI: 4760

Thank you!

Also, my ethnicity is Asian. I heard that universities tend to have different expectations for different ethnicities (apparently Asians are held to a higher standard) and I was wondering if this will go really against me (especially for CSUs). I understand my SAT isn't the highest, but I am planning to take it 2 more times.

The Cal states do not offer early decision/early action. Many top applicants (High GPA/Test scores) can hear as early as December for several CSU's such as CSU Fullerton, San Diego State, Long Beach etc... but you apply normally from October 1- November 30. Also intended major can have an impact on when you may hear back from the CSU's. Nursing applicants usually hear back in March.

Your EI looks very competitive so I am sure you will probably hear early from several of the CSU's on your list. The majority of applicants hear anywhere from February through April.

If you plan to retake the SAT, make sure you check each CSU's deadline since some CSU's such as SDSU only accepts up to the November sitting.

Best of luck and CSU's do not consider race/ethnicity in their admission decisions.

you are a very strong candidate for all the CSUs. Some CSUs send very quick acceptances to highly qualified applicants first - often before the ap window is closed. then work their way down the list. Others kick them out on a metered basis. Sonoma is always slow - no matter your stats.

As noted above, race isn't a factor for CSUs or UCs but, if it concerns you, simply select 'decline to state'.

    Good luck

Check with the websites of the schools you are most interested in and cross check those dates with accepted/declined threads on College Confidential. You should have a good idea of the dates for each school.

I feel for you, though. That waiting period was nerve wracking for me as a parent. My son didn't really seem too fazed by it. I'm glad that he didn't have an Early Decision option. I wanted my son to have all of his choices in front of him before committing or declining. Options are good and opinions and preferences change with time. Even yesterday, he said that he might have applied to SFSU had he taken a tour. He helped a friend move there over the weekend and really liked it even though he didn't want to visit a year ago.
