Would like some quick feedback about the general direction of my essay

Hi everyone, I'm applying for a scholarship and I'm kinda worried that the direction of my essay so far is getting kinda depressing. I was hoping someone could just read the first paragraph real quick and lmk what they think. I can PM you the essay.

My daughter talked about bats in her school for a scholarship essay, she got it. She wrote about learning to sew plush toys from Youtube tutorials for her Rice U essay. she got in. Just don't be cliche. Read it, try to see anyone would notice it or would it be thrown in the "i've read this before" pile.

If you think it's depressing, it probably is. Best to rethink things.
