Hey guys! So I've been scouring this site for a 2017 Haas transfer thread, but to no avail. I'm curious to see how other Haas transfers have been doing, now that we've completed the application as a whole. This thread can be used for discussion in regards to prospective Haas transfers for the year 2017. Reach out to me ladies and gents; I'd love to hear from all of you!

Great idea for a thread. I applied as well. What are your stats?

Thanks man! I wish you the best of luck.

    CCC transfer
    UC GPA - 3.95
    Major GPA - 4.00
All prereqs done with the exception of Calc 2, which I will finish in spring.
Last breadth course will be taken in spring.

I attended one semester in Cal Poly Pomona in Fall 2012, to which I flunked all 3 courses (I was heavily addicted to prescription meds at the time).
I quit cold turkey, and spent the next year interning under one of the top real estate brokers in the nation (Ranked #1 RE/MAX agent in the country).
After a year, I was promoted to Marketing Manager.
During this time, I received Employee of the Year award out of 17 employees in the firm.

After two years in the real estate industry, I decided to go back to school. I petitioned Cal Poly Pomona to retroactively withdraw my grades.

I also volunteered at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic as a counseling assistant, as I wished to inspire other addicts to positively reform their lives as I did.

What are your stats? If you know any individuals who applied to Haas, feel free to tag them!

@williamyang- Your stats look pretty solid and if I had to guess I'd say you have a pretty good chance. I am a student that is counting on an upward trend in order to get in.

    CCC Transfer
    UC GPA 3.7
    Major GPA: 3.8
I'm finishing Calc 2 this spring as well
    2 classes short of Breadth

    EC & Work HIstory
    -Supplemental Instructor (Acct)- 2016-Present
    -Student Ambassador- 2015-2016
    -Army Reserve- 2016-present
    -Bartender- 2015-present
    -Family Ran Charity- 2014-present
    -Activity Duty Army 2010-2015
-Member of Black Student Union & MECHA

-Presidents list every semester since spring 15
    -A couple of Army Awards

I graduated high school in 07. Went to a small private college in Illinois for football, W'd out within 2 months. I then had about 3 years of going to 2 other CCC while doing horribly. Joined the military and righted the ship.

I'm probably going to end up being on the outside looking in because of prior hiccups.

Also, my dad is a Broker for Re/Max in socal "Above the Clouds"

@enpz45 I'm an Army veteran as well. Currently a junior at Haas. What unit were you on active? Reach out to me if I can be of assistance. Where else you interested in? Is Haas your #1 choice?

edit: just realized we chatted several months back. Your stats look good though if you put together compelling enough essays.

    @enpz45 thanks for your feedback!

First of all, thank you for your service. Secondly, your GPA is borderline, but as you said yourself, your demonstration of upward grade mobility can be wielded as an advantage. Your EC's demonstrate leadership and involvement in school, but it will likely come down to your personal statements as to whether you make it or break it; I hope you spent a lot of time on those!!

Is "Above the Clouds" the name of the brokerage? I haven't heard of it, as there are a myriad of Re/Max branches in socal. I'm located in socal as well!

Also, let me know if you're interested in swapping essays for a second perspective.

@williamyang "above the crowd" is the motto. We will see what happens come late April. Let me know if you hear about anything new

@briank82 I was going to message you a set of follow up questions but I figured it'd be a moot point unless I got in. Yes, Haas is my number 1 choice followed by UCLA & UCSB. I applied to USC because their undergrad yellow ribbon is unlimited, but I just don't gravitate to USC like I do UC's. At this point it's just hurry up & wait until the end of April. You're advice at the beginning of the application period as well as following posts from last years thread have definitely helped. I was in the Army from 10-15 & served with 4bct 82nd and 3rd batt 75th rgr. What about you?
  • briank82briank82 Registered User Posts: 1,078 Senior Member
@enpz45 Yeah, we totally talked about all this .. totally forgot lol. I was in 82nd, 2-325. There's a few other 82nd guys at Berkeley, and a 3/75 as well. There's only like 10 undergrad veterans at Haas though, pretty small group.

While I can't help on the admissions side since that ship has sailed, let me know if I can be of any other help or assistance. Should you be up this way and want to check anything out, I'd be happy to help. I'm at Veteran Outreach Peer Advisor for the Cal Veteran Services Center, so I get paid to help out fellow veterans like yourself. Best of luck man, but I think your application will be pretty strong if you did a good job on the essays. Your grades are fine, I wouldn't worry about them in the least.

Yup, I remember that now too. I actually think 1-508 went to 2nd bct now..... My wife and I were up in the area in January and drove around the school. I will reach out if I get accepted or if I head up there, whichever comes first.

@williamyang and @briank82 I'm an Army vet as well having gone thru medical school on a Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). I have a daughter at Haas who is a Junior as well. We need more opportunities for vets. Briank82, please do all you can to get wy's app in front of admissions. It's not too late. We have life and leadership experience. Please do all you can to help a fellow vet. If there's anything I can do, please let me know.

@preppedparent I think you were referring to @enpz45
  • briank82briank82 Registered User Posts: 1,078 Senior Member
@preppedparent There's unfortunately nothing I can do at this point. Haas handles their own admissions and are pretty clear on their process. What I try and do (both as a personal interest and working for Cal Veteran Services Center) is assist student veterans interested in transferring before and during the application phase through peer advising, helping navigate the process, etc etc. As of now, @enpz45 just has to wait it out. Off of his stats though I think his application would warrant a solid look. 4.0's aren't the end all, be all, so I hope he was able to really leverage his experiences in his essays .. which is where veterans really have a chance to shine.

Thanks for your service and for having a vested interest in student veterans in higher ed!

@preppedparent, First off I'd like to thank you for your service. I reached out to brian82 prior to the application period to get his advice and he helped out with what he could. It's crazy the amount of resources and support that vets have available to them today versus how it was prior to OIF & OEF. That's in large part because of those who served before me. We will see what happens and hopefully my essays demonstrate that I am a student Haas is looking for. Its just wait and see now.
