How good are some of GW's departments? Double Major?

Zoidberg93Zoidberg93 563 replies77 threads Member
Aside from International Affairs, how does GW compare to other colleges in the following programs:
Poli Sci

I was thinking that if I went to GW, I'd double major in IR and one of the above programs. I really like the idea of a history and IR double major....would this be really hard or not that big of a difference from a single major in terms of workload? Also, would poli sci and IR be redundant together?

I don't know about other majors, but poli sci is what gw is known for.
You have dc at your fingertips you can find a lot of internship for poli sci

For other majors they are affiliated with columbian college of arts and science, and I am not sure I good they are.

Wow, Zoidberg93 it seems you and I have the same problems... The transfer issue and now the double major problem!
I have a friend studying in GW right now and she told me that when you take up a dual major in two similar classes (IA and Poli Sci being perfect examples), you get some slack because otherwise you would have to consistently travel between the two campuses. I'm not clear on exactly how this is done though but I'm almost certain they offer some services to make it less congested.

I'm taking IA and poli sci, by the way.

Yeah I thought IA and poli sci would be perfect together, but I've read elsewhere on college confidential that these two majors are redundant.....but they are also very easy to double major in since they are very similar and have many overlapping courses. Idk

I believe all writing (UW) classes will be taught at MV starting in the fall. There are courses in lots of depts that have sections taught at MV, but other than the UW course, it's entirely possible to never take a course at MV. My son has never taken a course at MV & he's a senior.

All incoming freshman - be prepared to take more classes at the "Vern". As above - All freshman "UW" classes to be at the Vern next year (Which all freshman have to take). I believe GW's ultimate goal is to have MV be a predominantly freshman campus - not that that's bad - it very quiet and beautiful, It's just the shuttle inconvenience and scheduling FB classes aroung the shuttle. the new dorm there is beautiful - West Hall.

To check out what's offered at MV - go to the schedule of classes for fall 2011 and look at any classes you're interested in - then go to the last few sections of that class - anyone that has a MV, MV1, MV2, etc. is at the Vern.
