    Hi mvarkey,

Although sites like Rate My Professor etc. exist, I would encourage you not to use them while searching for a bio class to take, or at least if you do, it would be smart to take its information with a grain of salt. What is a good learning experience for one student may not be as effective for another. When you are choosing a bio class to take, it might even be what class fits in best with your schedule that will be the deciding factor anyway, not the professor.

    Hail to Pitt!

    My daughter recommends Dr. Bledsoe.

Bio is tough across the board, no matter what professor teaches it. Some professors have horrible reputations, but I know people who have done well in those classes. It's really a matter of studying the material, seeking extra help, and getting to know the professor's teaching and testing style. My personal opinion? For Bio 1, I would recommend Ghosh. Bledsoe is also great, but I think he may only teach Bio 2. I had them both this past year and ended up doing well in their classes...but it took a LOT of work.

Clarinetz is right on the point. Foundations of Biology is probably going to be one of the hardest classes you'll take as a freshman in A&S, even undergrad besides Organic Chem. Anyways, Dr. Ghosh is a great choice for Bio 1. Although her accent makes it very hard to understand lecture, she has everything on a powerpoint. And if you read along in the textbook, you should be able to do well if you put in good effort. And she is fair and really does care a lot about her students doing well, something I cannot say for all Bio professors. I'm not saying that Dr. Ghosh will be easy, but compared to Newman and Roberts, her tests are a lot more fair and tries all she can to help you succeed. In terms of Bio 2...take Bledsoe. He is the best option out of the 3, but either way, it's going to be tough.
