@HSstudentNC Could you please elaborate on why your friend transferred back to the NC State business school after coming to UNC for a semester? Did he/she like the business school at NC State better?

He wanted to attend Kenan Flagler business school here at UNC but did not get accepted. He was in the business program at NC State prior to his transfer to Carolina and he was a junior. He figured that if he couldn’t get into the program he wanted at Carolina, it didn’t make sense wasting his time at Carolina if he was already previously a business student at State. @hbh2017

@HSstudentNC Thank you for the info! It seems like so many NC State students want to transfer to UNC.

Hey! How easy is it for transfers to get on-campus housing? I don't mind sharing a room or having a roommate. I'm looking at Carmichael and Ram Village currently.

Pretty easy to get on campus housing in general, however don’t count on getting your first priority picks. Returning students chose their dorm rooms back in November so there’s not that many openings in each dorm for transfers. Housing staff will do their best to put you in a preferred dorm or apartment. They also try to match you with roommates that are also transfers.

I will say that if there is a returning student who does not have a roommate, you will automatically be assigned to their room if you join their roommate group in the housing portal. So if you can find a returning student who lives in Carmichael or Rams village who is looking for a roommate, that would guarantee you a spot in one of those two if you joined their roommate group. @90smix

@HSstudentNC One more question... Are your friends happy with their experience at NC State as far as social and academics? Got into state but waitlisted at UNC.

They are. I visit State a fair amount and while I’m not a student there, my friends say they enjoy it there and I’ve had positive experiences there as well. Great updated facilities, academic resources, good student atmosphere etc. Of course I do prefer Carolina but State is a good choice if you do not get in to UNC off the waitlist. @hbh2017

@HSstudentNC Do you recommend sending a letter of continued interest or do you think that is frowned upon?

I don’t think there is a need to. Very few get in off the waitlist and the only thing you can really do is submit your spring grades once classes end soon so they can see more of your academics. @hbh2017

@HSstudentNC Hello. I've been following this discussion for quite a while and never had a question until now. I have a concern for my transfer credit report, and I thought you could put my over analyzing at ease. So, I sent my transcript to UNC around the end of winter break; therefore, it was before the second semester started at my current institution. During winter break, I was signed up for pre-calc for the spring 2019 academic semester. Although I was signed up, I am an athlete at my current institution and because of that I had to drop pre-calc. The class did not work out with my athletic schedule, so instead, I signed up for a different course that was a beneficial elective for my major. I dropped and added before the withdraw policy was in effect, so there is not a W notation listed on my transcript. Even though I dropped pre-calc, UNC got the transcript that had pre-calc as an in progress course, since I sent my transcript before I dropped it. I guess what I'm trying to get at is when I send my final transcript, do you think the issue will get resolved pretty easily? Or do you think my offer of admissions might get affected? I have my advising appointment this coming week, and I was going to reiterate this to the adviser. I just cannot wait that long and thought I'd ask you since you have so much insight on how UNC operates. I hope this explains myself thoroughly. Thank you!

To begin with, (and hopefully this will ease your worries some) UNC is very unlikely to rescind your offer of admission if a class that you were registered for (at time of application when transcript was sent) was dropped before any drop deadline. To admissions staff it looks like this: student was registered for class A and class A is not in final transcript. There is no W, so they should be able to figure out that you dropped Class A before a deadline. I don’t think there would be an issue with this, but if you’d like, perhaps an phone call to advising with an explanation would help. If you’re local, you can always go to drop in hours. It is exam week starting Monday, so it may be busy. @backspot26

Sorry for a delay in response. Thank you so much for responding. I have a phone appt. with an adviser next week on May 1st. Should I just tell her or do you think I should contact admissions as well? @HSstudentNC

You could mention it to your advisor. They are likely going to tell you that it isn’t really going to be an issue going forward. @backspot26
