As always, students should focus on getting the best grades/stats they can and have a major they can live and work with in case they do not go to med school for whatever reason.
Full disclosure, my D is a 4th year med student with a Spanish major. She started with a science major because she thought that was what she should do. Then she decided a back up plan would be a good idea and a Spanish major fit that better than a science major did. She didn’t take the Spanish major because she thought it would look good on an application, she did it because she had a back up plan that required fluency in Spanish.
