Elon U. VS Fordham VS UConn

My D has a month left to choose which school she'd like to attend in the fall. So far she's narrowed it down to Elon University in NC, Fordham University in NY, or University of Connecticut in CT. Can current students and seniors who have already made this hard decision post why they decided to go to either of these schools? Thanks!

    Wow! All very different schools.

I decided to go to Elon because of the tremendous opportunities it offers as a smaller school. I've always thought I wanted to go to a huge school, but ended up loving Elon! Will your D be one to fall through the cracks at UCONN? Or will she be able to stand out among a large class?

superG: didn't know you decided; CONGRATS!!

to the OP: such different schools and locations....maybe if you could provide more information, better help could be provided....

My daughter is attending Elon in the fall but would have not had schools as large as Fordham or UConn on her list; it is extremely important for her to have classes where professors get to know their students and vice-versa.....

plus it's cold in The Bronx and in Storrs....haha

Does Elon have a good Education Major? My son wants a smaller school, wants to minor in Comp Science. Weather is decent?

    Elon is well-known for education.

The weather is very temperate - they had a little bit of snow in December and January, but it's been in the 60s and 70s most days since late February. They're too far inland for hurricanes, too!

My daughter loves Elon. She has gotten very personal attention from her professors, and the kids are very active and involved.

Those are 3 very different experiences. She will get a great education at any of them

If you are not a Conn resident I would hesitate going to UConn. 80% are in state residents which means several things-- HS cliques continue on, hard to break in being the outsider, and many other kids who are homesick go home for the weekend. (otherwise I would think it would be a Great school) Versus other big State schools- Penn State 35% out of state & Delaware 50% OOS- so not an issue.

I know several Fordham parents- kids are very happy there, same for Elon.

Fordham University has the benefit of being quite close to NYC and all that fantastic city has to offer.

Elon University is far superior to Fordham in quality of campus life - incredible food, beautiful fresh dorms, lovely weather, congenial staff. There is a steady parade of impressive individuals who come to Elon to share with the students. Check out the web site. The students are more diverse at Elon than Fordham and the school strives to be ivy league caliber. It's just a very impressive place.

Oh! Elon is also very close to Duke and Chapel Hill and it's fun to mix with those students too.

I don't feel as positive about Fordham even though I have family there.

I am SOOOO happy to read your post NorthernM! Elon has so many fantastic opportunities and my experience is that the faculty is quite engaged with the students. I wish my family member had chosen Elon, but the NYC connection was the tipping factor. We have friends at Elon and they LOVE the opportunities they have had in the communications dept and the study abroad program. There is a wonderful sense of enthusiasm for education and the students at Elon. Congratulations! Wishing the best for all of you!
