A bit preemptive, but can I get some opinions on Emory Greek life?

I applied RD to Emory and really, really like it. The Greek presence attracted me particularly, and even though I'm not a fan of stereotypes, I'm asking for some.... what are the reputations/stereotypes of the sororities at Emory? My stepmom was a Kappa Kappa Gamma and would disown me if I rushed another sorority. I may not even get in to Emory but I'd like to know. :-) thanks!

there are 8 sororities at emory: tridelta, theta, kappa, adpi, aephi, gamma phi beta, sdt and dphie .... tridelt/theta/adpi are easily the best with the coolest/most popular/social girls. aephi is all jews/japs from long island. gamma phi beta/sdt/dphie are the "weird" girls and kappa is okay. they dont have a bad reputation but its certainly not an amazing one. you dont have to be part of a greek organization to have a social life either, but emory is clearly the greatest school on the planet and if you get in, you must go. you will have the most incredible time of your life, im absolutely obsessed. dont go by stereotypes, however. GO WHERE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IMPORTANT

thanks so much for the input... i really, really hope i get in!! i would love the opportunity to check out the sororities there :-) i would never be in one just for a stereotype or one that i was uncomfortable in. wish me luck!

    do they?
i always heard tridelt is.. morally casual. i know some kappa girls and they aren't the "coolest" but they are NICE and i like all of them a lot. kappa kappa gamma is supposed to be the "smart" sorority i think.

i'm not greek, but i know a lot of girls in sororities. thetas and kappas are virtually tied for the smartest sorority by gpa, but thetas are much more fun and much more attractive...

tridelt is much more social and trendy than theta, kappa, or adpi. a large percentage of their membership is from New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. Saying that they are morally casual and do coke is an attack on a very small number of girls who let their partying get a little out of control. And those girls are appear in every sorority.

Each sorority at Emory has something to offer, but I like to think of it this way. If Emory sorority recruitment took place in Hollywood next year, Angelina Jolie would pledge Tridelt, Natalie Portman would pledge Theta, and Serena Williams would pledge ADPi.

I like the celeb characterizations! However, I think Tri Delt would be Nicole Richie. Or Angelina Jolie pre-babies.

There are 8 sororities at Emory. Theta and Tridelta are the two best. Theta is known for being the pretty girls who try to be the best but in some sense they are. Tridelta has a reputation for being more morally lenient and do more dirty rushing, partying, and have a slightly slutty reputation, yet more fun and great girls. However, this is not true of every single member of the house and a small number of girls give the reputations to each of the different houses. ADPi is more sporty and are somewhat of the wannabe ka thetas but are still one of the best houses. Not as attractive as tridelta and kappa alpha theta but still good looking. Good luck getting into AEPhi if you are not Jewish and/or from Long Island, New York. Fun girls though. Kappa is known as the smart sorority although Kappa Alpha Theta is smart too. Kappa is cute girls but not known to be as "fun" as trideltas and thetas. DPhiE is ok, Gamma Phi Beta is a little less than DPhiE, and SDT is arguably the least desirable sorority. Although these are just the reputations and being a junior I have been exposed to girls I like and do not like in each of the different ones. Also I'm a guy so this is just what everyone sees from the outsides.

wait I checked the website and I saw more than just eight sororities....

There are other sororities, but they are not part of the same rush as all of the ones mentioned in this thread. These 8 are the main ones. If you are looking for an all black or all Indian sorority then you can check out some of the others.

The stereotypes are largely accurate but just remember that there is some fluctuation over time. Kappa used to be very social and into coke about 8 years ago but then nationals came in and reorganized. Now they are just okay, with some social girls and some not so social ones.

SDT (or as I like to call them: EAT) is the least desirable one? Um...what?

If you base it on partying, then sure.

The girls I were just hanging out with said tridelt is the slut sorority.
