Biology course not available at local CC to transfer to SDSU

Smith0701Smith0701 37 replies5 threads Junior Member
What happens in the event that a student wants to transfer from our local CC to SDSU to major in biology but one of the core biology prerequisites isn’t offered at our CC? All other science classes are available or have an equivalent, just not one of them. Will the student still be able to apply for transfer or be rejected because of missing one of the science courses for the biology program?

Are there any other CC’s in your area that offer the Biology course?

Honestly I haven’t researched it yet. The closest CCs are over 2 hrs away and ours is larger than those CCs. We are in a rural area of northern CA.

Maybe one of the CC’s have an on-line option although not ideal as a Biology course? If you have exhausted all possible options, then SDSU cannot fault you for not taking a class that is not available. Just an FYI, SDSU is a difficult admit as a non-local transfer applicant so make sure you have a few back up schools.

if you don't have all the required pre-reqs, you'll be denied.
if you can't find the course on-line, look for an alternate major or transfer target.

My situation is a little different but I didn't have one of my required classes because it wasn't at my school or any nearby schools except SDSU, where it was only offered there during the fall. They didn't count it against me at all however I am a local student with a good GPA so I had a good chance anyway. Since you're not local I would try to take it online at any school you can, check to see if it's available at any community college at san diego (to see what your chances are compared to local students), or change your major to something similar. It's already really tough for non locals to get in so contact admissions, keep your grades up and do what you can but don't count on getting in.
