This list is pretty biased towards west coast schools based on the population here. NYU is clearly the #1 dream school.

Right dude 7 west coast schools out of 38 is incredibly biased

Besides the fact that this list has been made in front of everyone’s eyes by CC members and only Stanford is really representing the west coast, but why not? Stanford is badass.

One thing that puzzles my mind is how in the world usnews ranks duke ,Yale,Princeton and upenn higher then stanford

How is it biased to the west coast? Ok the #1 dream university is Stanford (duhh) but the ones below it are all east coast! Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cornell University University of Chicago Dartmouth College Harvard University University of Virginia University of Pennsylvania Yale University are all east coast last time I checked!

I could understand confusion about Duke and UPenn, but why would Yale and Princeton having higher ranks than Stanford surprise you? All three are excellent schools, and Stanford has (in my mind) no clear advantages over the other two.

Sternman’s just crying b/c NYU isn’t winning this one…in fact, NYU isn’t even close to the top. I still like NYU a lot, but when it comes down to THE #1 DREAM SCHOOL…no, it’s not it.

Well, minus the University of Chicago.

“How is it biased to the west coast? Ok the #1 dream university is Stanford (duhh) but the ones below it are all east coast! Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cornell University University of Chicago Dartmouth College Harvard University University of Virginia University of Pennsylvania Yale University are all east coast last time I checked!” AND?

He’s talking a/b what Sternman said, not what you asked…I don’t think there’s anything to add to what he said. Stanford is the only west coast school in the top 10 so it’s clearly not biased towards west coast schools.

As for your question, I think Duke and UPenn should fall to Stanford. They are just not as good, although they are excellent universities. Yale and Princeton are two schools that I can see being ahead of Stanford…remember, the top 5 generally stays the same (until Penn butted its way in but it may be well deserved) and they just move stuff around for entertainment purposes. Yale or Princeton being ahead of Stanford is not a cardinal sin, and Stanford has been #1 at least once. However, I do agree that Duke and Penn being ahead of Stanford is wrong.

“I could understand confusion about Duke and UPenn, but why would Yale and Princeton having higher ranks than Stanford surprise you? All three are excellent schools, and Stanford has (in my mind) no clear advantages over the other two.” Because internationally(more specific South America and Europe) as far as USA it’s Harvard Stanford… i have never heard a professor of mine saying that they consider P or Yale higher then Stanford…P and Y are more"famous" in north america.
