That’s because people who responded to PR’s survey were regular teenagers who wanted to go to college for atmosphere, fun, and the general experience, not because of “strength in biochemical architecture/other extremely obscure discipline” or “number of investment banks that recruit upon graduation”. ;)

given the topic/nature of this thread, what do you expect. “dream” and “prestige” seem pretty synonymous to me when it comes to the college search. this doesn’t mean that the prestigious schools are always necessarily better, or a “good fit”… but lets face it, people dont really dream about going to their state school.

… or do they? whatever.

oh, and princeton review did a survey kinda like this.

parents said the school they’d most like to send their child to is Princeton.
the students said their #1 dream school was NYU? that kind of surprised me.

here’s the link. see for yourself:

Yea I got into a fight about it with one of my coworkers b/c he was like NYU is the biggest dream school and I’m was just like w/e you say, but I guess it’s true though I honestly don’t see how, though that’s not to say that NYU is not an awesome college, I’m just confused about it, though I thought it funny that parents had Notre Dame high on their list, but no where in sight for student’s list I would have figured the other way around, but hmmm.

(Aside from the obvious “reach” state schools like UCB, UVA, UNC…) If you live in a state with a school that has a TON of school spirit and a lot of tradition, you might. See Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania (PSU), Oregon, etc.

cassadie - yeah I noted that poll at the beginning of the thread…it was kinda the reason it started. I wasn’t absolutely convinced NYU is the dream school, but who knows - all depends on who you’re asking.
