But as you move up the tiers, don’t fool yourself that just submitting Early improves the chances for underqualified applicants. Any school with low admit rates is going to cherry pick. They don’t wear blinders when reviewing, don’t lower their standards.

Completely agree and most highly selective colleges’ early decision acceptance rates are not much better than regular decision when you strip out all of the “hooked” applicants. ED is really there for the benefit of the college, not the applicant.
