Someone wanna explain #24? Is this an option for every class or something?

People don’t get an attitude or assume snobbery when someone says s/he attends Stanford, unlike for HYP.

More socially egalitarian.

quomodo:

this is an option for certain classes and varies wildly depending on departments. CS and EE classes have quite a good number of these classes whereas other majors have significantly less (or none at all!). My guess is whoever made point 24 is a CS major…

^ nope, I’m not a CS major (I have taken lots of CS classes, but have relied on SCPD for non-CS classes as well).

quomodo, select departments have video courses. You can see them here:

Yay zenkoan I just committed yesterday after getting back from Admit Weekend! People were SO nice.

Welcome to the Farm, quomodo!

whoa wait SLE is an awesome thing about stanford??

BASS69, I’ve yet to meet a single person who did SLE who regretted it, but have met several who wish they had done it. There’s pretty complete consensus about the fact that it is an amazing academic experience, and some debate about the insularity that comes with its residential component. (Incoming freshmen who like the sound of the program shouldn’t be deterred by any rumors of “stigma”, because there really isn’t any, just some joking around about “nerdiness”, just as there is for various techy majors.) I think a lot of students want to have the “freshman experience” of living in Stern or Wilbur, but it turns out there are tons of freshmen in FloMo also, along with some upperclassmen. The FloMo dorms are kind of meh, but the food in the dining hall there is better than Stern or Wilbur dining, IMO. So my advice would be, pick the humanities program that appeals to you based on content and approach. SLE concentrates all your undergrad writing and humanities requirements in your freshman year, so it takes up a chunk of time but frees up your schedule somewhat in subsequent years. Some students find that a big plus, and others would rather spread out their humanities and writing courses over the first two years.

All of these reasons are 100% true. I LOVED AW and i can’t wait to move in.

Thanks, zenkoan!
