<p>The suggestion of apology wasn’t directed towards anyone in particular, but would be most appropriate for those who made the issue a personal one by impugning the character, patriotism, service, or sincerity of fellow veterans or serving military personnel. One would hope that despite strong and reasoned differences in opinion there would be a modicum of respect between service men and women, and if there isn’t, there damned well should be.</p>
