$150,000 for the AVERAGE kitchen remodel?!

We have a skinny cabinet for the cookie sheets and baking pans…and an upper one that is almost as skinny for mugs. Our builder thought we were nuts. We reminded him…it was OUR house. I really appreciate both of those cabinets!

I chuckled when I read your post. I never even thought of a cookie sheet/pan cabinet- then was in a siblings kitchen after we were all done with the renovation, and we were preparing for Thanksgiving- WOW. So convenient, such a game-changer, why did I not think of a narrow cabinet? And instead of a big bulky cabinet over the fridge, she did one which opens like a garage door (up and over) so you don’t have to contend with the doors when you are pulling out a Cuisinart or a blender.

Do-over time? (not in my lifetime!) Good for you, Thumper for telling the builder what you needed!

I told my builder a LOT of things I wanted that he didn’t want.

To bring it around, I think this is key when doing any building or renovating. Otherwise you risk getting what someone else wants. I will say…my builder did have some good ideas that we did do!

When we built our house, the designer included 2 lower skinny cabinets, each with 2 levels. They are handy. And full - cookie sheets (many), baking stone, muffin tins, lasagna dish, cutting boards.

I am tall so in our last two kitchens my husband built a tray divider in the cabinet above the wall oven. A couple of years ago I used spring tension rods to make platter dividers in my pantry. I don’t want to stack anything (except same size dinner plates or storage containers)!

I don’t like a lot of doors, but I have a lot of trays and cutting boards. I’ve shared pictures of this before. Almost ten years later, I’m still very happy with how this part of the kitchen works.

Love that!

I also have divided sections for cutting boards, cookie sheets and platters above the double wall ovens. I had seen it somewhere and wanted it so the kitchen crew made one up for me. There is also a very shallow drawer below the double ovens where I store cooling racks and jelly roll pans. 27 years later and still glad I asked for it.

I think I have a similar setup! Really like it.

That is it exactly!

I’m not tall enough for something above my fridge or ovens or above everything else. My vertical cabinet for the cookie sheets, etc, is a lower cabinet, and I really like it…a lot.

Me too - The cabinets above the fridge and the upper shelves are all stuff I don’t use very often because I can’t reach. My vertical divided cabinet is a lower between the stove and dishwasher.

I have similar to this. But I also have a narrowly deep drawer under the oven I store cookie sheets, other flat things. So one thing I keep in this vertical slot is my little fold up step stool - fits perfectly and I use it SO often!!

@bookworm - you’ll have more space if you store those spices upright -

I decided we had way too many spices to store with a divider, so I picked a drawer and store them flat without the dividers. Sometimes stacking them between each other. Very easy to find the spice. I also put with a marker when I opened it, we tend to keep some too long. It stores three times the amount. The drawer was not able to hold them upright.

sorry, I didn’t mean upright - I meant stored vertically on an angle. I store just as many spices this way as I did flat in an empty drawer.

Rev A Shelf is a company that makes customizable drawer and cabinet inserts like the one bookworm posted. They can be cut to size and fit the space like custom built. That is where I got my spice drawer organizer.

I keep my spices in plastic baskets in cabinet. Like my MIL, I split them by baking spices vs cooking (entree) spices. And yes… there is some overlap -but if you would use the spice for baking it is in the baking basket.
