Oh, Sunnie, I am so sorry for your loss. He had a wonderful life and companionship with you. This is the hardest thing about great dogs. Hugs.

As I mentioned in another thread, I lost my sixteen year old pup a few weeks ago. He was a good boy and he made every day just a little bit better. SIGH. I saw this coming for a few months and did not realize how tough it would be to say goodbye. I broke down again this morning when I ran into one of his old toys under my desk. We were both lucky to have them.

So sorry to hear about your loss… We also just lost our young adult dog to a bad drug reaction while under medical care for something else. It was entirely unexpected. She was a lovely little dog who should have lived at least another 10 years. We are heartbroken, and I cannot imagine the loss of a close animal buddy after so many more years together. Our pup just gone this week was also the “baby” of my “baby” who leaves for college Saturday. All in all, a sad time. I work in a field with a fair amount of human grief, so it is a relief to see this thread, and to be able to express this loss for a sweet animal friend and condolences to others for their losses as well.

English Setters are such interesting canines, too. One of my all time favorite favorite books is Trouble With Bird Dogs, a memoir by a long time ES breeder.

He was the one and only English Setter we ever had. The most laid back, sweet soul too! They are beautiful and dignified looking. He could be hard headed and was strong, that was an interesting combination!
