Barrons, I don’t know where the venom is coming from, but it is particularly misplaced on a thread about the tragic death of a young person.

My children played against Dalton on multiple sports teams over the years. The Dalton parents I met in the stands and on the sidelines were without exception some of the nicest people in NY. My deepest sympathies to the family of the young man who died and the Dalton community.

Barrons, I find your posts on this thread to be quite offensive on two counts.

The lesser of the two evils is that you are generalizing about millions of people in one city with one broad brush stroke. That type of stereotyping and generalizing about any group of people is irreprehensible, in my view. I understand you ran into some jerky types of people. Jerks exist everywhere and in any group of society, including yours.

But what is really unconscionable to me is for you to be discussing any of that on THIS thread which is mourning the passing of the life of a promising young man in his prime of life who unfortunately succombed to whatever emotional instability he was feeling and left such sorrow in his wake among his family, friends and school community. Please take your hatred of NYC people some place else. Further, NYC is not the cause of this young person’s suicide. Suicide occurs in all locales with kids from a range of backgrounds.

Unfortunately, I have heard through friends of my children that this young man bore the brunt of some teasing over the years because of a particular medical issue he had. I believe that to be true because of the source, and find such behavior to be absolutely reprehensible. The classmates responsible for this boorish behavior will have to live with themselves wondering whether they contributed to this tragedy.

Having been there that day and played sports with him I have to say to anyone trying to speculate or place blame needs to stop talking like they knew him.

Barrons specializes in being insensitive on threads involving deaths of young people. He has no compassion whatsoever and has a mission to offend those who are mourning a senseless death.

Yes, I recall this from the Penn student’s death thread as well. The insensitivity in such a situation is mind boggling and disturbing.

My heart goes out to those who were impacted by this young man’s death. I did not know him or that community but even so, I find it so very sad.

I was just thinking the same thing, MOWC. What posesses a person to open a thread on a sensitive subject to pour salt in the wound. Seems like the NYC based co. has one less jerk and the CA based one has one more…

You can imagine friends or family Googling to read the press and finding this. I can’t even imagine the grief of losing a child. May they somehow find peace.

This is, pure and simple, a devastating tragedy. My heart goes out to the family of the child. If one has ever been to a funeral of a child who jumped/was possibly pushed/died after an 11 floor fall you will never be the same. You will NEVER stop hearing the screams of the parents. Lest you think that I am being dramatic, I have been to one of those funerals…here in Los Angeles, last May.

I just want to add comment regarding someone’s comment about people talking like they knew this kid when they did not…it is happening all over the NYC UES rumor mill and it is pathetic. We all know kids who knew him or knew of him but that does not mean anything. Everyone should simply think of his brother and parents and be respectful of their grief and…not talk to the press that has been combing the neighborhood looking for a story. The story is simply too tragic and we are all praying for those directly involved and for our friends at Dalton. The private school community is a small one and we are all sending our support…

Any talk of why someone commits suicide is pure speculation. The only one who knows is the person who did it. Whatever is troubling the person who chooses this path, has left them in despair with no hope. It is natural to ask “why” but there is truly no answer. What is left is profound sorrow, which I imagine is unbearable most of all to the parents. Those who are left wonder what they could have done to avoid it and the fact is, that a person who is intent on commiting suicide, will find a way. Also, someitmes the person has not shown outward signs of this level of despair. My D had a friend committ suicide last week and she said nobody would have ever guessed this person would do that.
