@deborahb , that was fun to read! I knew that white sneakers had made a comeback, but I didn’t know how people were wearing them. I saw a pair of sneakers that were so cute on a blogger and choked when I saw they run around $500…Golden Goose.
@conmama I would choke too! For what it is worth, I didn’t get the feeling that most of the ones I saw were expensive. I did see some brands I know.
@deborahb , I’m looking for some soft pink, low rise ones to go with skinny white jeans for spring and to take with me on a trip. All I have is black. I couldn’t decide if pink or white, but you mentioned white is generally worn with other colors, so going with pink.
Keds has a lot of sneakers on sale right now. From traditional flat sneakers to sparkly or floral or cushioned or slides…
That link is just for the “pink” ones!
In Ecco, you will blend right in. That’s one of the shoe brands popular in Europe.

I LOVE those Eccos, all but the price! I saw some on gap.com that were less, but they might not go as many miles comfortably in a day. Pink is my favorite color!
They are very reasonably priced, IMO, for the quality and fit you are getting. Stay away from Gap and Old Navy sneakers. You get what you paid for.
Second the suggestion for Ecco. A few years ago, I wore a very similar pair of red shoes during a two week trip ti Italy.
Cole Haan is also a favorite of mine. Here is a pair of pink sneakers:
Ohhhh, I love both of those links better than the ones I bought from DSW that should be in next week. One was a KED, but I like these better. But, like all shoes, I’ll need to try. I did buy these today at Macy’s to have as an option. I just need to get them all in.
So, now I’m ticked because I bought them at the $31 price, but online I can get them for $23. I have a wide foot, and they are fairly comfortable. I couldn’t walk 10 miles in them, though. So now I have to order. What a hassle.
@conmama Macy’s should be able to price adjust for you. I would call customer service or return to the store if you have time.
Also, if you have an outlet mall nearby they may have a Cole Haan or Ecco store. I was lucky enough to find a pair of similar sneakers at Cole Haan outlet store last year on the clearance rack for $30. Score! They are super comfortable and are my go-to weekend shoe.
Nordstrom Rack also has Cole Haan from time to time.
@JazzyTXMom , these are the ones I ordered from DSW that are Cole Haan, but not on sale. They got good reviews so wanted to try. I’m loving my Guess ones, but I’ll have to see if I’m walking on clouds in the Cole’s. Thanks for the tip on calling Macy’s, I’m going to do that right now. I’ll also take a look at Nordstrom Rack. I tried on the pink sneakers this afternoon with my white skinny jeans and I love the look! I have to admit that while I can nail the “going out at night” look, I falter with the casual look. I never get it right. I think it’s because with my body type, i never feel like things look balanced or my legs are too short, or whatever. Sorry that I’ve hijacked the thread.
for you Cole Haan shoppers, my Chase Offers has 30% off Cole Haan (online or Cole Haan stores) deal thru 4/3. And if you order online, ebates has 5%…
So - have a question about a 2-week Europe trip.
this has to do with luggage - and what to do with it if you arrive in a city at 8 AM, but can’t check in till 3 PM.
any thoughts?
and, i’d love to hear thoughts about the best type of luggage to take - and packing lightly is fine with 2 of the 3 going on this I think.
If you ask, usually the place you are staying will either let you check in early or at least leave your luggage and you can explore and eat until check-in time. In many trips, I’ve never failed to receive one of those options. This is a very common problem that the owners are used to accommodating.
The “best type of luggage” is what you like best. You will find people recommending 4 wheel rollers, 2 wheel rollers, hard side, soft side, back-pack rolling combinations, wheeled duffels, shoulder carry duffels and on and on. Check the previous posts - if there aren’t strong opinions on this thread, you can find them on other CC threads by searching.
I suggest you visit a luggage store or department store that carries a number of brands. You can see what works for you. Pull things around, check the interior features, compare brands and prices.
I would consider something smaller than a 22 inch as some airlines consider the 22 inchers “too big” and disallow them. Frequently, they are grabbed for gate check on full flights or if you board later in the process. Also investigate the weight limits your airline imposes. Some airlines allow only 15 pounds for carry-ons and some airlines do, indeed, weigh the carry-on luggage.
I travel abroad, Europe, Asia, Australia 6 - 8 times per year, 2 -3 weeks in most cases. Almost always carry-on only. I think I have tried every combination of carry-on available and finally settled on the smallest, most lightweight set-up that I can pack for the specifics of the journey.
Agree that nearly all lodgings will watch your luggage while you go and dine or explore and I’ll notify you when your room is ready. We often arrive early and have never had a problem. Sometimes the room is even ready.
It’s always nice/good to tip when you retrieve your belongings or they’re delivered to your room.
Sometimes I even have materials mailed to my hotel I’m so I don’t gave to tote them about. I always call the hotel in advance to be sure it I’ll be ok to send items to them and they’ve always been fine with it. I try to have the items arrive just before I check in (like candy to hand out at conferences).
Our kids and we have been packing in a carry on for decades. It’s gotten more challenging for me as drugs & medical equipment fills more and more of my space but I still manage it.
