bongo23- I don’t know, I really wouldn’t call Siberia necessarily “country.” Well it is rural but quite different from my view of rural country setting… (that’s just me though… living in an actual country area) And it was quite brief (i read the book quite quickly anyways) mention so i think tess of the d’urbervilles served this essay MUCH better. It was perfect for this essay.

HOLY ****… why didn’t i see the COUNTRY part???
during the test, i read the question and i was like./… hmm an important setting? okayy
and i started writing about BELOVED by toni morrison.
well it is set in a country, but i primarily talked about this house, 124, which is a house the characters lived in.
I DIDN’T EVEN SEE THE “COUNTRY” PART OF THE QUESTION! y’all are talking about!!! dammmmiiiittttttttt!!! i thought it was juss an example. so, i guess this is my fault that i didn’t read the prompt carefully.

well, so do you think i failed my last essay?

cuz until now, i thought i had a very decent shot on 4.

dear all

lets relax and let this country/country debate rest. the exam is over, if you messed up, too late. im sure the AP people will understand due to the poor context in which the word was used…

no need to worry.

They could have written the prompt “Write a well-developed essay about anything you would like” and some of you still would have misinterpreted the prompt.

“Well I thought the word “essay” connoted an initial attempt or endeavor”
“The word write was pretty unclear, I thought we were supposed to do an essay on the difference between write and wrong”

we took an AP exam not a second grade english class placement test…any b*tching about CB’s “incompetence” is more ironic than anything i saw on that exam.

some people were saying that it should have been obvious it was “countryside” because of the list of books the prompt provided. i saw one of the books on the list was “Out of Africa”. does anyone know what out of africa is about and if might by any chance be about… africa? i’ve never heard of it so… if so, wouldn’t that work in favor of all the people who used heart of darkness?

Yes, Out of Africa was in Africa BUT it’s about a farm in Africa surrounded by jungle/forest. Overall, it still fits in to the rural theme of farm life except in a very different setting.

Heart of Darkness has no farms…nothing like the country at all.

anyone use Brave New World for this essay? i contrasted the countryish savage reservation with the world state…hmmm wonder if it works??

CB is probably reading this thread right now and laughing at all of us.
