2009 PSAT Scores and Discussion

I think you meant 60. 68 was not listed as one of the answer choices.

^ He was answering “What is -4 raw score for writing? (form W)”

Something to think about in the strike question is that one could easily change the verb and the question sounds better. So is the current conjugation really wrong?

Ex. Recent wage cuts have angered workers to threaten a general strike.
Recent wage cuts have caused workers to threaten a general strike.
Recent wage cuts have provoked workers to threaten a general strike.

noname22, you’re right but just the fact that you have to change the verb in order for the sentence to make sense is key.

Does it tell u whether u made NMSF on ur score report?

Who has the Form W curve?

mabsjenbu, no, it will not tell you on your score report whether you made NMSF. You will have to wait until next fall for official word on that. You can get an idea if you are in the running by looking at last year’s cutoff score for your state.

We are impatiently waiting until mid-December or our school to give out the students’ scores.

Can someone tell me what my total score would be if I did this (0 omits on the test)

-2 M
-2 W
-2 CR

It’s sort of a random estimate, but I think it’s close to what I got. I know I missed 2 in math, and at least 1 in CR. I’m just assuming I missed a couple more, and hopefully I’m right.

(Sorry, Form W…)

No, it doesn’t tell you whether you got NMSC on the actual score report. You have to infer based on your state’s previous cutoffs. And I meant -4 raw = 74 on the Saturday reading.

Alright contentious questions time:

The question was: The changes in the employees’ benefit plan, especially the increase in insurance fees, has angered the workers and threatened a general strike.

A) has angered the workers and threatened
B) have so angered the workers that they have threatened
C) have angered the workers, threatening
D) has caused such anger among the workers that they have threatened
E) have angered the workers to threaten
Answer:B

Mike and Paul left their houses at the same time for a fitness run to a park. Mike ran at an average speed of 7 miles per hour, and Paul ran at an average speed of 5 miles per hour. Mike and Paul arrived at the park at the same time. If Mike ran 4 miles farther than Paul, how far, in miles, did Mike run?

Answer: 14

Hmm, 1253729, do you know anything more about the form S curve? I realized I missed at least 2 writing questions now darn it. Do you konw how much -2 on writing would be. Or how about -1 on Math? thanks a lot.

Well -2 on the Math = 75, so I’d assume -1= something like 77. I heard the writing curve was harsh, like -2=70 harsh.

Thank you very much 1253729! Sounds like I got those right. Also, there was a question on Japanese and American climate or something like that in the writing section; what was the answer to that?

Oh man really?! I heard it was harsh, -2 = 70, for the form W curve. But for form S too?
This just sucks then. =/

This thread would be extremely useful had i remembered even one question on that PSAT. i can even remember what the stories were. Im nervous though. Last year i got CR-49 M-80 and WR-50. I hope i can hit NMSF this year. But the curves dont seem to be working in my favor. With that linient math curve and harsh writing curve. Sigh. I guess i just have to wait and see.

The writing section seemed a bit more difficult than those of previous years. Yet the curve is MUCH more harsh. I don’t understand. I heard the form W curve was harsh with the -2 = 70, but idk how it was because i took form S. So now I really want to know what -2 in writing on form S is. Thanks a lot 1253729 by the way for all of the info.

-2 = 70 is the S form curve. W had a more generous writing curve. (From what I can tell through reading this thread).

Can someone explain why the correct answer for the construction workers was correct? Why is “to threaten” wrong?

And thank you 1253729 for the info.

Wait so what is the -2 curve for writing for Form W?

Form W -2 = 73 (taken from previous post)

Luminouzz, that was only one person that claimed -2 is 70, and it wasn’t clear if they concretely knew. I didn’t think their claims for the other two sections didn’t sound quite right. I wouldn’t be concerned with S form results until we actually get them. Personally, I don’t believe that CollegeBoard would create a test that would be scaled that harshly.

These are the two form S curves that were posted

CR: -4 = 74
Math: -2= 75
Writing: -0= 80

CR: 2 wrong, 0 omitted, 76
Math: 2 wrong, 0 omitted, 75
Writing: 2 wrong, 0 omitted, 70 (this seems particularly harsh)

The -4 CR = 74 is -4 raw. The math curves match up. I would like to believe that writing was less harsh too. If W -2 = 70, I will probably miss NM. But I do think that it was a easy writing section.
