2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

acceptance from UCI CMB Feb 4th.

@ neurosci Small world. I heard the Tuesday after the interview, at about 6 PM.

Yea I heard tuesday too…

Did anybody interview for wash u genetics and genomics and hear back about admissions yet?

Hi PhDHopeful! Congrats on all of your interviews. Out of curiousity, when did you find out about getting an interview for Tufts Sackler School?

~ Kate

Is that it for UCI then? :(

i’m an international and I was told that UCI-CMB reviews intnl apps in March. Are u domestic or intnl nuttersbutter?

Hey all, I had a great time at the Wayne State TNP interview! It’s a small program, with a disproportionate amount of widely varied research opportunities! There is a lot to fall in LOVE with and I hope I get accepted!!! I should know by next week.

Here are my impressions, put down for posterity: It’s a brand new program, just turned 3! The stipend is competitive and the area is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. The research is also VERY well funded! If anyone doesn’t get into a neuroscience program this year, I highly suggest they check it out for future reference, the university doesn’t get the credit it deserves. The undergrad is not top tier, but the medical school is well respected, and all of the research is under the medical school…a large amount of it is clinical: working in humans! It has no teaching requirements, and is focused on training translational research scientists.

also, it is not highly competitive, BUT still competitive, they did not extend invites to any applicants last year because no one who applied made their cut-off’s for GRE/GPA/research experience. A current student said the program is budgeted to accept three students a year.

cancerbiol - Hi! I am a domestic applicant…

nuttersbutter: i am domestic too. i’m sure they’re not done… as long as you don’t have a no, then you really never know.

I know… but waiting is the worst! Which weekend did you interview at UCI?

@kgdedaj:
Hi Kate! I heard from Tufts Sackler ISP on the 5th of February, and Tufts Sackler Genetics (I applied to both programs) on the 9th.
Good luck with your interviews!

@microphd:
I interviewed with Einstein last week too! Haven’t heard anything yet, but I hear their AdCom meets every other Thursday, so they probably met yesterday so we should hear either today or Monday. Eek! Good luck!

just got my acceptance to albert einstein! woo!

me too phDhopeful! yay!

Has anyone heard anything from NYU Sackler following the Feb 4th/5th interviews?

I got an e-mail from Yale MCGD track committe. She said that they have recommended me to the Graduate School for admission for Fall of 2010. And, pending final review of my application by the Graduate School, I will receive “official” offer from them by email. Is it normal process? I am just worrying that there are some problems in my application so I have to get admission through Graduate School…Have anyone heard back from Yale after interview?

@telojennie

That’s standard…you always have to get an official offer through the graduate school. Congratulations!

I interviewed at Einstein. Everyone from my trip really liked it. The grad students are almost universally very happy (I didn’t just talk to the people the program had talk to us; I stopped a couple of random students on campus as well) and there is a real sense of collaboration and an emphasis on teaching from the faculty. The facilities are very nice as well, as is student housing.

Hi everyone, I hope it’s okay for me to ask an open, general question about why you guys like your favorite grad schools. It would be interesting to see everyone post maybe the top one to three aspects of the school that draw you in; some examples would be

Areas of research represented
Number of labs
Strength of courses
Program size (big or small)
Geographical area

Anything else you can think of! Sorry if I’m breaking rules…if I am, just ignore this.
:p

@molbio

Thank you ^^

Is it possible that Graduate School rejects me even if the BBS program gives me admission?
I am just worrying because I really want to go to Yale !! ^^

does anyone know if UNC BBSP has a revisit weekend?!
