2011 January SAT: Critical Reading

Yes, the clorophyll one was because it stops producing pigment.

did any of u put example of a recurrent phenomenon for the chandeliers one.

debater27, I do remember that question. I put something along the lines of chlorophyll not regenerating in the fall?

I didn’t take the test but I’m just wondering if Direct Hits helped any of you on this particular test?

@ifisher - I’m not sure if that’s the best interpretation of the understanding. By what the grandmother came off as, she didn’t really want to express her true feelings. She had those bottled up. The writer never explicitly saw it as entertainment, either.

thanks andevan, i’m thinking that’s what i put…! for some reason, i kept thinking that it was the one about uniform colors.

@jollybjolly i didn’t use direct hits, but the sparknotes 250 list was really helpful for me. I saw a ton of words from it in the CR section

“That explains it. Kaplan and Barron’s are both notoriously brutal in their CR and Writing curves. I wouldn’t rely on anything but the official CollegeBoard book when looking at those. I think the Math curve is usually the same though, I’ve only seen 800 790 780 before.”

In that case, I’m really starting to feel better, especially since I’ve scored around 700 CR and 730 Writing using the curves that Kaplan and Barron’s have given.

brb going to breathe again

yup i did recurrent phenomenon

Was the one asking about “broadcast” on the Tribulation passage “distributed widely”? And did the girl write the letters because she wanted to improve her skills as a writer?

@jollybjolly yes i went through both volumes of direct hits in the two days before the test. they really really helped! lots of words showed up. without it, i would’ve gotten so many more wrong on vocab

@Skiiz21

I put broadcast was “distributed widely” but I wasn’t sure. Anyone out there that can confirm?

I know you guys previously said the art critic one was the experimental, but I’m
like 99% sure I had CR experimental (2 in a row, 4 CR sections total). Did anyone else have experimental that wasn’t the art critic, and what was it? For some reason I can only remember the ones listed already.

skiiz i think i did the distributed widely one, but i remember considering that option about being extravagantly showcased too. do you remember what that option was? hmmmmm that’s not the exact wording, but yeah…ha

i got “explanation for the incongruity” for the question about the chandelier?

I can confirm that its distributed widely. I’m 100 percent sure that it is the answer.

yeah distributed widely…what was the one about why she didn’t visit the house? i put she didn’t feel a need but idk

She didn’t feel a need to visit the physical remains of the house… something like that

what was the last question for that passage, about what the “key” was?

better understanding of reality? i think
