2011 January SAT: Critical Reading

two questions wrong so far…■■■

I put the determination answers for the “resolute” question as well.

I think I got the memories one wrong… nice, that is if it’s “protect cherished beliefs,” I’m hoping it’s not…

“drPanda: nutcracker vocab = indelible”

YESSSSSSSSSSS

I thought the first reading section (with Tribulations/Paige?) was the most difficult… then it got easy after that.

I put the one about worldview…
I had cherished beliefs first :frowning:
Awww man.

The experimental passage for reading was the one about a student who as a 14 year old wanted to be a literary art critic, so he spent most of his time reading the works of critics instead of the genuine works, and he talked about how it was slightly embarrassing for him to make those decisions.

In case anyone was wondering

@gildedmushroom – I’m pretty sure it was “protect cherished beliefs.” Sorry. :frowning: I got the indelible one wrong though.

remember the passage about the narrator writing a letter on the behalf of the grandma?
there was a question like… what does the phrase “and i was off to the races” indicate?
a) the narrator views writing as a game
b) the narrator enthusiastically went to work

…!? any answers?

Yeah I kept changing my answer between inspired family achievements and protected cherished beliefs…

Anyone remember any other questions? We need more contributing to jog my memory haha

classicgirll, I put B) narrator enthusiastically went to work, pretty sure that one was correct

classicgirll for that one i put that the narrator enthusiastically went to work.

For the same passage about hte letter writing girl, the last question stumped me. It asked what the passage was about? I think I put it was depicting the formative stage of the development of the writer, or something like that. It didn’t really make sense but I thought it was the best choice of the 5

the one about races was that she was delighted…

Omg I got an experimental writing section, when I was sure it would be the Saiche passage. I bombed writing for sure, didn’t even get to finish my essay, how bad is that? Saiche one probably brought my grade down too.

What was the one about her being either self- satisfied, concientious, or wary?

i put self-satisfied

I’m pretty sure one of the vocab was /accomplished, not what everyone else is saying (i acree with saywhatt)

I’m pretty sure, classicgirll that it was the enthusiastic choice because “off to the races” was the only possible game reference, and the rest of the passage said how she was “self-satisfied” and enjoying her experience.

Someone needs to post answers from the girl and her family’s house or whatever…

IntellectualLi, I put I think C) a basic misunderstanding of the purpose of writing letters…

I chose that one because at the end the grandmother wrote Love Teresa as if it were an order rather than a closing, and I thought that idea encompassed the entire passage… how the grandmother never put details/effort into her letters.

For the question about what was the purpose of “more silence” for the grandma letters passage, did anyone else put resignation?

For the writing letter to grandma, what was the attitude in some lines. I chose conscientious, but self-satisfaction could be right

I put conscientious

for the grandmother passage again, another question was what inspired the granddaughter to begin padding her grandmothers letters.

 • I put she wanted to make more entertaining letters

Another question: Why did the grandmother learn to write Love?

 • she was in a more personal relationship with her sister now?

What was the purpose of the parenthesis (it talked about Californians and hockey)

 • to show the writer catering to her audience?

C sounds right… damn.

I also put resigned and conscientious.
