why is it not ironic and it is poking fun at? Sure the whole passage might be mocking, but the reference to how he doesn’t know his age but knows the goats age is pretty ironic. Try to find the link to the passage and we should look over it again because i’m pretty sure it is ironic.

[I don’t know how old I am because the goat ate the Bible that had my birth certificate in it. The goat lived to be twenty-seven. by Satchel Paige](http://www.quotedb.com/quotes/2327)

I could find that really quickly. There is an irony that he knows the age of the goat, but not his own, especially since it was the fault of the goat. Were the goats real or not? It seems like they were real so maybe I still have a chance for an 800. Crap, this site is making me obsessive. LOL.

I think I got the satchel Paige book

[Don’t look back: Satchel Paige in … - Google Books](http://books.google.com/books?id=LT2pirW9nSYC&lpg=PA22&dq=satchel%20paige%20goat&pg=PA22#v=onepage&q&f=false)

The actual book its from. with that area

Questions:
Tribulations passage=What were the other options for the cherished beliefs question…I cant remember.

What was the goat question about? Was it the one about humorous anecdotes?

What was the main purpose of the grandma passage?

I recall the goat question asking WHY his blurb about the goat’s age was ironic, or is that just me?

I said it was poking fun at the situation. The reason I didn’t put “mocking the press” or whatever it was, is because I didn’t feel like the press was mentioned explicitly. Also, the arguments of the people who put “mocking” also support “poking fun at”

"he said with “Having a pleasantly sharp taste or appetizing flavor.” irony "

He is poking fun at it … thats why its ironic

I thought that it was obviously “poking fun.” He consistently stated in the passage how stupid it was that people obsessed over his age. Also, he’s saying it humorously; thus, I believe that he was poking fun at those who cared so much about his age.

“He is poking fun at it … thats why its ironic”

I don’t understand, you’re siding with both answer choices…lol.

I still am not convinced. I think it could go either way. That question, as easy as it seems, was the hardest for me on the entire tests (excluding that math sum of a series)

yay! got that one right. Or maybe not? idk. anyone know what the answer for the apartment/city one and if the asnwer was present vs past or something like that? Also, does anyone have a link for it?

Well generally, irony and humor go hand-in-hand, so I don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t be “poke fun at”.

All of these questions could go either way. We’ll just have to wait for CB’s explanation.

^ the question was asking why it was ironic I think. Because he was poking fun of the debate

^^ I thought it was obvious from Paige’s carefree and happy tone that he was making a joke, while making fun of the press. Had he aimed for a more serious tone, I think that it would have been more ironic.

Furthermore, I agree with past/present. Clearly, if she’s discussing apartment life with baby life, she’s comparing past/present. She’s essentially stating how life was so carefree and easy when one is a baby. Thus, this was why she painted the scene of Sesame Street with such an enormous amount of happy and peaceful energy. She is using it to represent childhood in general vs. adult life where one must worry constantly about what apartment to buy and what school to go to.

^Well I put that as well because I thought “mocking” would have been too harsh a choice.

^But dont u think that ironic was also harsh, and even somewhat cynical?

^I didn’t get that impression when I was reading the passage.

Does anyone remember what the actual question and options for the goat one were?

sorry to switch the subject again, but did we come to an overall consensus about the flower paper?
was it that she didn’t like the paper or needed more room?!
