Hmmm, I’ve actually checked out the tuition for the N.U.in program and it seems more expensive than 1 semester at Northeastern. That being up to 5K in extra expenses. Not only that, but federal loans don’t seem to apply to that first semester. Northeastern is a great school, but this N.U.in program is really starting to sound fishy.

I wouldn’t have minded if I was just deferred to spring, but making my acceptance into the spring semester contingent with completing a fairly expensive program seems like a way for Northeastern to make more money than a real interest in maturing the students. The icing on the cake is the whole “study in another country” thing. I don’t think I’ll take the bait though. I would have rather just finished a semester at another university and transferred in if they had given me a regular deferral. The N.U.in program’s mission seems to want to make that option inviable so you end up giving Northeastern more money than towards another school (say a cheap public university) you’d attend for a few months.

Don’t get me wrong, studying in another country does seem to be a great experience and most definitely can mature a person. If people want to attend the school through this program, that’s perfectly fine because there are many other reasons to attend Northeastern. However I don’t think I can afford to attend, financially and due to my personal morality.
