2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

@KittyChen

Isn’t Davis a better school for poli sci than UCI?..

I’m actually also a poli sci major and i didn’t even apply to UCI, nor did I apply to UCSD. (doesn’t help that UCI is literally 25 minutes from my house but meh…)

I think UCSD will be a chance, and you’re in at Davis/UCI…

Santa Cruz Major: Literature

@CosmicBubble: You didn’t TAG anywhere?

SBaz: I don’t know about your chances at Berkeley. I know a couple of people who didn’t get in for psych and had 3.8 gpas (Fall 2011 transfers). They are both at UCLA now. Berkeley cares a lot more about personal statement than UCLA so make yourself unique! Do volunteer work, show leadership, ANYTHING! Try to raise your GPA a little too… showing positively trending academic achievement is a huge plus. Good luck!

also EVERYONE, don’t be mislead by the “average admit gpa” if your major isn’t impacted. I was told by many advisors that the reason for a lot of high average GPAs is because people just tend to apply to top tier schools with really high GPA figures that are NOT required. For example… if your major is geography (not impacted anywhere) and the average admit is a 3.6 and yours is a 3.4 YOU STILL HAVE A GREAT CHANCE. So don’t be afraid to apply to top tier schools with non impacted majors!

Thanks luxxxx :slight_smile: That was something we all needed to know. I have a 3.34…and applying with a Sociology major which isn’t impacted anywhere. Hope I have a chance at SD.

By the way, my friend last year was rejected from UCSD and UCI last year because they never received her fall grades. She had an good GPA… (3.4) and got in with appeal. Male sure to call if you feel like your rejected was a little iffy especially if you’re applying to a non impacted major with a good GPA.

@benyvaio,

just checked the thread. thank you for your personal experience, what was your GPA?

Hi everyone, I posted my own thread when I should have posted here instead. I’m new to the forums, so please forgive me!

I was a teeerrrrible student between 1999-2003 and was academically dismissed. I returned to the same school in 2009, and worked my way up from a 1.0 to a 3.6 gpa (academic renewal and course repeats).

I applied to UCI, UCSD, UCLA and Berkeley. I’m hoping my poor performance years ago doesn’t squash my chances at transferring.

I’m a physics major, will have IGETC and have my major preps done. What does everyone think? Any realistic chance of going to a UC?

@unseelie: Dont worry :slight_smile: That’s a really big difference and it looks like you worked your butt off to get there. Honestly, you have a great shot at UCI and UCSD because your GPA is solid, you’re mostly done with prereqs and igetc. I’m iffy and UCLA and UCB because theyre really picky about finishing most of your prereqs and igetc before applying. UCI and UCSD wont look into your academic history like UCLA and UCB do. UCLA and UCB love improvement. You should check out last years UCLA UCB thread.

Good luck!!

I need help. I’m going to be a 2012 transfer. I currently have a 2.8 because I got and F on a language class I used to have a 3.4 but it went down because of that. Since I am planning on retaking that class and get rid of that F, will my chances of getting accepted affect me? Any advice;

Schools I applyed to:
UCSD-
UCSB-
UCLA-
UCD-
CSULB-
CSUSM-
CSULA-
SDSU-

Please be honest its ok to be harsh.
Thank you so much.

@luxxxx: So if I’m correct in thinking this way, UCLA cares more about GPA and Cal cares more about the essay? I mean, they’ll both still look heavily upon the two, at any rate.

HoneyFlower: Unfortunately…yes, it will affect your chances of getting accepted into those schools. I’m assuming you received that F in fall of 2011? They will look at your total gpa including fall. It’s not looking too good :(

@acustickitty:
:frowning: any advice? I plan to retake that class and I forgot to mension that it was a 5 unit class. I have A’s and B’s in my other classes. I’m also in ags honor society and have done community service. I’m so scared because two years ago I applyed. When I was in highschools and got declined because of one class too. And yeah the F was in fall2011 I am doing the IGETC

Any chance you can retake this class in winter? Because you can appeal if schools reject you. There are successful appeals.

what do you mean appeal? And I wanted to but I can’t because winter starts next week and I’m going to take English1A and Com9. And they probable won’t let me exceed my units because I don’t have past a 3.0 anymore

Appeal is when you get rejected from UCs and send in an appeal letter for them to look over your application and maybe gve you another chance at acceptance. Because of you retake that class during Spring…there’s no way they’ll accept you with a 2.8…You can always exceed units. You have to fill out a form but I guess your school is different. Are you sure you need a 3.0 to exceed units for winter? If it’s important, they’ll let you exceed Winter units.

I’m going to riverside city college. And I know I’ve exceeded units before. They told me that I have to have a 3.0 and above. Since the class I failed was Greek1 i was planing on takin.g a Spanish class to get the language part of the IGETC down then retake Greek1 during summer. Its so depressing. If I pass my English1a with a good gread would that help since its a required class and the other one was an elective?
