2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

I got accepted!!! Ahhhhh!!!  :D

@coolcat what are your stats?? PS CONGRATS!!!

I GOT ACCEPTED!

COLA, for psychology
3.41 gpa
2 letters of recommendation
2 strong essays
2 years work experience at one job and 6 months at my second

Is the Status page down for anyone else or is it just me?Anxious to check, now that people similar to my stats have been accepted…

@nadia102 Mine is down, too. I’ve been trying to check it for the past couple hours but it won’t let me. With everyone announcing they’ve been accepted, it’s making me nervous, too!

looks like just COLA is sending out decisions as of now, CNS takes forverrrr!

ACCEPTED!!!

My stats are on the first page of the thread, but here are the specifics:

International Relations–COLA
3.41 (or .2) GPA combined from UTSA and community college
No recommendations
Essays: 2; you could say strong. Funny thing is that I submitted at the very last minute, so I didn’t know that you had to paste the essays in. So my italicized words came out as “?this?” and I thought that would hurt me.

Extracurricular: Heavily involved in high school, nothing during freshman year of college, not heavily but impressive involvement for this academic year.

Ahhh after screwing up my CAP program last year, this was my final chance (and go to A&M ew). Now I just need to find a good moment to tell my parents! :D

I applied for Psychology (BSPsy) (COLA)

Current College: Texas State University
Current GPA: 3.47
No letters of recommendation
2 Essays
A few extracurricular things in high school, none recently
1 job
Currently have 60 credit hours (72 after this semester)

Nothing spectacular and I still got in. I’m pretty happy about it because I was either going to go to UT or A&M. And Austin is way more awesome than College Station. lol.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted today! And good luck to the rest that are still waiting!

These acceptances are making me feel a lot more confident. I will have at least a 3.56 and my two essays are strong. I applied for RTF which I know is hard but I still confident in UGS.

Quick question. So on my application I marked that I was hispanic (yes or no question). I didn’t mark that I was any specific race (white, black, pacific islander, etc.) because I thought saying I was hispanic was me telling them my race, not just ethnicity. It didn’t tell me that I couldn’t move on without choosing one and my application got processed just fine but I feel that because I left that out what race I am, it could affect me in a negative way. Does that seem plausible?

How important do you think work experience is for getting in? I don’t really have any extra curricular activities and have never had a job. I’ve had classes every semester at a community college, summer included, since I graduated high school so it’s not like I’m sitting around doing nothing.

@JebSpring1 From what I understand about the whole ethnicity/race thing, it shouldn’t decide whether or not you get in. I think they just do it for statistics and to see what percentage of people are what race.

@kingaion I know some people with little to no work experience that have gotten into universities just fine, but I’m not sure how no extra-curricular activities will look to them. I guess it depends on how many hours you take each semester, how hard your classes are, and if there’s any sort of special situation you have.

Congratulations, Taylor! You’ve been admitted to The University of Texas at Austin.
You’ve been accepted for admission into the incoming class to the Economics major in the College of Liberal Arts.

Current school: Texas State
GPA: 3.42
31 hours
No letters of recommendation
3 strong essays
Decent resume

Good luck to everyone.

Which is easier to get into? UGS or COLA?

My deadline is being extended to June 1st, because I did not have 30 hours completed at the initial deadline. I’m starting to get worried that I’m not going to be able to get in, because I think I am going to make 2 B’s. What do y’all think?

I applied for Advertising as first choice, and UGS as second.

Current School: Sam Houston State University
GPA: Currently, 4.0, but it could be a 3.75 at the end of the semester, which is when they will see my GPA.
I will have 34 hours.
2 letters of recommendation
2 Strong Essays
A few extracurricular and community service
1 year job experience

…I’m so nervous!

im startting to think COLA is easier then UGS…

Is anyone else’s MyStatus page showing up with an Error page?

@baskethead you are totally gunna get it!

“Congratulations, Dominic! You’ve been admitted to The University of Texas at Austin.
You’ve been accepted for admission into the incoming class to the Economics major in the College of Liberal Arts beginning in Fall 2013. Find out more about your admission.” … I think I ran around my house at least 14 times because I was so excited. I think the only way I heard back so soon was because I was probably never even considered for McCombs with my current GPA. Either way, I sandbagged my way into UT and will sandbag my way to a 4.0 and into McCombs in a year. Here are my stats for those of you eagerly awaiting:

First choice college: McCombs - Business Undeclared (will have all prerequisites completed by the end of the semster).
Second choice college: College of Liberal Arts - Economics.

I currently have 30 credit hours (14 from HS dual credit) and will have 46 by the end of the semester.

I have a 3.46 cumulative GPA (combination of a 3.75 at UTSA, 3.21 from 14 hours of HS dual credit).

Wrote all three essays and put a considerable amount of time into them. I believe they were very strong and I revised them many times. My statement of purpose was exceptionally good.

Three letters of recommendation: One from a McCombs alumni who I worked for at his law firm. One from a family friend who is a senior accountant. One from my accounting professor from my first semester at UTSA (A in the class).

I have had five jobs total, including two at the same time during my first semester of college. Those two jobs were as an independent contractor/file clerk at a law firm, and as a visual/music tech for a nearby competitive high school band program.

I am a Buick Achievers Scholar - 2012 Recipient of the Buick Achievers Scholarship.

I am marching upper-split lead baritone for the Crossmen World Class Drum & Bugle Corps this summer.

I racked up many music accomplishments when I was in band in high school, and I was a 2012 Texas all-state musician.

UTSA Dean’s List.

UTSA Honors College (4.0 in Honors College). Honors accounting, communication.

No extracurriculars or organizations. Just Crossmen.

I want to say thank you to those of you on here who helped me maintain my sanity through this process. I can’t even begin to express how much you all helped sometimes. I’m so thrilled to finally be leaving San Antonio after being here my whole life. I know GPA is the biggest factor, but a 3.46 certainly isn’t safe to rely on for admission. If you’re worried about your GPA you should know that it’s definitely possible to get in. I think my essays, letters and experience, as well as my strong positive academic trend, all combined to pull me through the door. Thank you all, congratulations to those admitted, and good luck to all of you still waiting! Not a fun stretch of time, but it will pass. :)
