2014 RD decisions: discussion thread

^The international student quota is 8% of the accepted class. There is no quota for students from individual countries.

While what everyone says above is true (CC is not representative, and there are plenty of people at MIT who are not superhuman masters of amazingness), I think it’s also fair to say you shouldn’t apply if you can’t handle the idea of being rejected – the vast majority of applicants to MIT and other selective schools are rejected, which is a reflection of the limited size of these schools, and not of the goodness and smartness of their applicant pools.

How does MoMoChoy get in when Stupefy does not? Either I am missing something blatantly obvious or else the MIT decision process is completely messed up. I tend to think the latter is true. I know a senior who got in who seems like an idiot in my classes and barely has an A average. Im pretty sure he has a C in math, too. This school is ridiculous.

I think we students tend to put much more emphasis on scores and grades than college adcoms do. Especially on CC, when all we have to go on are stats. Maybe MIT happened to be looking for a MoMoChoy rather than a Stupefy (as far as they could tell about them from a couple essays). Or maybe they were just in a better mood when they read MoMoChoy’s application. Who knows. I wouldn’t say it’s completely messed up, just subjective.

I think MoMoChoy is a ■■■■■. He posted different stats in different threads.
