Yeah, I don’t know if I like that.

Speaking of politics, let’s start a new subject. What are you all doing on winter break? Aside from celebrating our acceptances, of course.

yes definitely. and I also absolutely agree with what ParTeeGrl28x said. basically, the reason I oppose universal healthcare and the like is that I believe a large proportion of people benefiting from such plans are actually capable of making money (and thus affording healthcare) on their own, but choose not to. That being said, there are obviously certain groups of people (the disabled, the elderly, for instance) that are physically/mentally UNable to sustain themselves financially, but those are the ONLY people who should be helped. if ALL poor people are helped, it doesn’t seem fair for the people who hard just to see their money being spent (probably) on people who don’t deserve it

@cadillac- if I am accepted to yale, we’re visiting yale! WOOO. if not, just relaxing at home with family or impromptu vacation to quell my depression

WOOO!
GO LIBERTARIANS!!!
socially, im as far left as possible

for some crazy reason, my school does finals right after winter break.
so i will be dealing with the effects of three months of procrastination and finishing up apps to the other schools if i dont get in.

p.s.
i just finished my last standardized test till the lsats!

this is exciting :D

Yeah I think we all agree haha.

If I’m accepted I think I’ll make the trip up, too. Family is going to Mexico for the second week of break, swweeet.

Stupefy, my plans are identical. If we both get in mayb I’ll see you at Y =)

^Stupefy - yes this is exactly why i dont support universal healthcare. I’m not very educated on the proposals, but overall, I see that as a problem. it’s the same reason i dont like “no child left behind” and attempts at testing that children take over and over just to pass to get into the next grade. Other countres like india and china are smarter bc only the smart and/or rich kids get a chance to study and excel. standardized testing has become earsier, yet its not worth forcing some students who really dont want to learn, to learn, if they are harming the education of others.
That being said, that came off more radically than intended and I dont mean to say we shouldnt care about educating stupid people, just that the system is flawed (like all systems really), so I guess i just went on a really long rant. :)

no plans for winter break, yet
ohhhhh , i wanna go to yale though if i get in, but i doubt my family will agree (we went over the summer, its expensive, etc.)

Mexico sounds cool, I really wannt to travel abroad, and use the spanish i’ve been learning for so long. I think Spain would be cool

Our family is going on a cruise the day after Christmas-celebration or cheer up.
I have my Morehead-Cain interview as soon as I return. My Rice interview is next week, too. I hope I will have this interview thing down soon. :)

That’s so exciting emily - I love cruises. What Islands will you be visiting?

SAME. I’m so socially liberal it’s ridiculous. im liberal on pretty much all the major issues (gay marriage, abortion/stem cell research, gun control, death penalty) EXCEPT legalization of marijuana. to me that is just reckless.

@emily- this is the first year my family didn’t go on a cruise (usually we do it during thanksgiving). have fun! the best cruises are 4-5 days long. any longer and you really gain weight :/

Emily, if you get Morehead-Cain, would you turn down Y for it? Congrats on the interview!

agreed, stupefy :)

yup, I have to agree with Stupefy once again. Haha I am glad we have a libertarian club going here

I wonder if they have a Young Libertarians club at yale (like young dems and republicans club) Right now I’m in my high school’s young democrats because between dems and republicans, I’m more democratic. but whenever we have to debate the young republicans about universal healthcare, I skip out lol :P

Really? No marijuana legalization? I’m all for it (full disclosure: I don’t smoke it, unlike many pro-legization activitists).

haha glad to know im not the only libertarian-ish one here…

for marijuana i say give the go ahead to legalize… im not going to say i havent done it a few times but thats not the reason why… better the profit for marijuana to go to our debt stricken government than the drug lords in mexico and other south american countries where they have enough money to buy out the governments of their own country… our country would go crazy for one two years if it did happen… but eventually the common people would learn to control their habits however therell be a few who abuse it… but its really quite mellow when compared to those who over abuse alcohol
