2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@Kraz4CocoPuffs my counselor’s name is Kellie Graham

Does anyone if transfer students get duped when registering for classes for the upcoming fall semester since we find out if we get accepted so late and most of the classes will be full?

I’m at SMC currently and I don’t know if universities are anything like my CC but it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll be able to crash a course even if the class gets filled quickly (minus math classes).

I’m sure most of the USC general ed courses (I would be an incoming sophomore) are already filled…

Good question. That would def suck

Is there anyone still waiting that hasn’t gotten an SGR? I feel like I’m the only one…

There are so many GE courses to choose from, there will be courses open. The very best ones fill for virtually everyone early in the regular registration process, so most people end up taking some random GE. I really don’t think you will be at a big disadvantage. Also, 8am classes are pretty available in general. You will get the classes you need, just may be bumpy going in the first semester, but after that, smoother sailing. Still, there are lots to choose from.

Check out ratemyprofessor or whatever other sites are available for a review of profs/classes for GEs, some of these classes end up being the hardest ones with lots of papers. Not what you want in a random GE.

I found out on June 10th via portal and the letter is yet to arrive!

@bigstom I thought they send the letter first and update the portal 3 days later?

Doesn’t work that way a lot of times. You should be checking portal and the email you used on your app. S got email reminder to apply for housing before anything else updated and before package came, with the portal updating a few hours later, and package arriving the next day. This was about a month ago.

Rejected by portal. I sent my SGR a week ago.

@Probtransfer sorry to hear that. Do you mind quickly sharing your stats and spring grades?

@Probtransfer so sorry. What’s the date on your letter?

@californiausc June 10. I feel that they’ve accepted enough transfers so that the rest of the decisions will be acceptances for spring or rejections.

@Probtransfer could be, but too early to say as well. Santa Monica City’s semester, for example, hasn’t even ended yet, and they’re a big school for transfer applicants

@Probtransfer I’m really sorry to hear that :frowning: do you mind telling us your grades on your sgr and what classes you took? any prereq classes you took that spring? That would be really helpful cause now we know that SGR does not indicate an acceptance whatsoever.

@pomeranian4rich My gpa was a little bit below average, but mostly A’s and B’s. Calc 2 was my only prerequisite class for spring.

@californiausc I’m not sure how admission to spring works, but judging from the trends on this thread and the wording for spring admissions from USC, it seems that transfer spots for fall are pretty much filled up. It just seems logical to accept a person for the fall rather than the spring if fall spots are open, but I have no idea haha.

Good luck to the rest of you waiting still!! And to people who were rejected like me, yeah rejection sucks, but it’s not the end of the world. There’s lots of other opportunities out there. Look at it the way I am- at least I don’t have to go in debt and try to pay 70k a year lol!!!

USC is weird sometimes. This year I’ve noticed a lot of spring admits relatively early. Last year, some dude didn’t hear back about his SGR for Marshall until July 15th or so and he still managed to get in for the fall semester. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason why somebody gets in for the spring. My guess would have to be how popular your major is, but I don’t think either of my choices were all that popular. So yeah, you never know with USC.

my restrictions changed 2 weeks ago and I have not heard back. no rejection or acceptance. they got my spring grades a month ago and at this point, I’m just assuming they put my app on hold or sent it to the committee or something whatever their process is. I just dont get how I didn’t receive a rejection by this point…

My portal updated before the letter. Both are dated June 10th and i received my letter today because i live only about 2 hours away from the school

Here’s my advice to you all:
They can be relatively slow in processing spring grades. Call the admission office every day until they push your paperwork through. Thats what I did. Once they tell you everything is all good to go then you should expect an admission decision within about a week. Sometimes it’s less. In my case it was about 2 days.

@bigstom did you personally ask them about your application? and what number did you use?
