@zettasyntax thank you!!! I really dont think usc would send out so many SGR’s if they didnt think they could accomadate that many people
The wait is pure bullsh!t… I’ve slowly begun to lose interest in USC because of it but I’m not gonna give up hope…
@mrajan97 I wonder how long it takes for our transcripts to get there, since we did priority shipping.
The whole wait thing is very true. I think I was only okay with it last year for two reasons. 1) I had been through the process before and 2) I had committed to UCLA as a backup. They do make it brutal for SGR people since potentially, lots of them could still wait up to 2 more weeks to hear back
@topchoiceschool The last time I ordered winter grades they did it within 24 hours! It’s usually super fast cause it’s by PDF I believe, but this time I’m guessing it might take until tomorrow cause they just started rolling out grades today? Not sure, but I uploaded a screenshot on the portal and it still has it in required documents. USC prob won’t process it until after the weekend anyways
@albab10 i was under the impression that you needed to submit css in order to get financial aid???
@albab10 that’s a good question. I believe you have to submit CSS to receive additional aid from USC. I’m thinking that if you only submit FAFSA you will only be eligible for federal grants. IF financial need is taken into account with admissions it may slow down the process but I’m not sure.
I received my financial aid package and I’m super new to how this works, is anyone here familiar with it? They’re basically granting me full tuition (minus the ‘other expenses’) but I’m just wondering how that works, is everything just credited to the USC account?
At SMC I received my checks in the mail…
@Cindyciclta I not a TTP I’m not sure what that is
@journalism89 Well at my now former university, financial aid worked by them taking everything to pay for tuition and fees, and whatever else was left (loans, refunds, etc), was direct deposited into your bank account. I’m assuming it will be the same here.
Just curious, are you in for Fall or Spring semester @journalism89
Viterbi applicant who just received the ‘Ability to benefit’ notice!
SGR sent May 21, no TTP. (@eoverland, TTP is the Trojan Transfer Plan)
Luckily my other school extended the deposit deadline so I should be able to have this sorted out on Tuesday. Hopefully this means something good
I hope the rest of you hear back from them soon as well! Don’t give up!
I think we just need to relax and wait, kind of ironic for me to say this because I’m super nervous too. I mean the waiting is part of the admission process, or maybe they just want to see how patient we are. Getting mad or complain about how long the wait is won’t help them to speed up the process. We should just wait.
Congrats to whoever got in. Good luck to whoever is waiting, including me. BTW, I’m Marshall, too.
@journalism89 Yup, @Oneday1997 is exactly right. USC uses the aid to pay for your tuition and any other fees (like their mandatory medical insurance if you’re without coverage like I was). And if there’s anything left over, they credit it to your bank account or give you the option of storing it as a credit for future semesters. Your aid sounds similar to what I got - just about all tuition covered, but no extras like housing. I think it’s very rare (if not impossible) for USC to cover housing unless you get a lucky combo of scholarships or are just dealt an extremely rare package (I’ve chatted about this with another USC student and he seems to agree that USC seems to stop/cap at a certain amount of help for even students that require a lot of financial help)
It’s better than a lot of others get sometimes though, so I was grateful because Lord knows I could never afford to pay even half the sticker price
Nah i say freak out man hahah having our time wasted with a system that kinda screws you over to commit somewhere else is kinda messed if you think about it june 1st was the deadline for transfers that had received notices and people with sgr are sort of leftovers id be pissed if i waited this long and got the boot i sympathize with ya @thepinksun kinda losing interest also if i knew this was the was the way they screened applicants i would have gone to somewhere else just saying better luck next year yall
@Transferrring wow! I’m guessing you got in! When did u get ur sgr? I still haven’t got anything. I’m getting more nervous now ._.
@Cindyciclta I got the SGR on the 18th and sent it in as soon as my grades were out. Good luck! I’m rooting for y’all
@daRamz I know that it sucks but think about it. This wait is the perfecr way to weed out kids that arent super comitted ti usc that they would have let in and had to reject someone else
Seems like a total D move hanging out those to dry who waited and are still going to get the boot geez there are those who turned in their stuff at the end of may and still havent gotten a notice
@Transferrring really? I got sgr on May 18 too and sent it the day of. >< I hope this doesn’t mean I’m rejected…
@Cindyciclta there’s still a lot of people on here who were SGR in May
