^^Most certainly, maybe it was the omnipotent airline knowing that Obamacare was coming, @arabrab. I think you mentioned that your dad was a Delta captain? Though I could be confused, and maybe you said United.
Or perhaps it was the carriers going bankrupt, and taking everyone down with them (except for management, of course). It really stinks what they did to people, and how many people were misled. I hope with the advent of airline profits, and better contracts that they can put some of the retirees in a better position, but I doubt it. The unions only cater to the dues paying members.
I have a friend who does consulting for municipalities. One of the areas she finds as a huge drain on resources is retiree health benefits. It is an area that many companies and cities and counties have cut back on especially for the spouse.
I’m thinking about looking for a different plan for my college D. Our anthem plan has really poor Dr selection in the area she is presently living in.
Ah, I remember, @arabrab. At least I was half right! Someone else’s dad here was a Delta captain. Well, I hope they fix the retirement for him, but I have no hope for that, unfortunately.
Delta Airlines filed for bankruptcy in 2005. The firm for which FIL worked and which promised MIL the life time benefits is financially sound. And therein lies a big difference.
