***2016 National Merit Finalist Thread***

Still waiting for us also in Florida. I am so impatient! This is worse than being a kid at Christmas!

@Tryn2keepup where do you live? Our GC said they had not received anything as of this morning. We are in West TN.

@Icgusa you had a 3.8 UW GPA, but did not advance to NMF status. What was your SAT score? :frowning:

We are in IL and our high school says they still haven’t received notification. Our mail is ridiculously slow (took over a week to get an invitation to interview at a school in MO, which arrived after the first day of interview slots) so I feel like it could be another 1-2 weeks before we know anything.

Wow - that is frustrating! I do not understand why they don’t just email the students or post it on their site. This seems like such a backward way to do business.

Homeschoolers in MI and still no letter in today’s mail. I’m getting worried. :frowning: Homeschoolers are forced to submit it through someone else (don’t even get me started about how irate this made me) and we used the counselor at the local PS. Starting to think they screwed it up somehow for her. My daughter doesn’t need it for anything, but she earned it.

I called National Merit today because I was going nuts. They said that they mailed out letters to all the schools last Wednesday, February 3 and that they allow two weeks for schools to receive them, but that realistically most high school should have received them by today or tomorrow. They said letters to families would be going out in today’s mail on Wednesday, February 10. They said that schools can call two weeks after the mail date and families can call two weeks after the family mail date to check over the phone. I still haven’t heard from my sons high school whether he advanced to finalist and I emailed his principal today. We’re going nuts!

Two weeks is crazy. Just email us already and be done with it.

Exactly! Or let them log into their online account where they had to submit the application and see it there!

Is administration supposed to keep it quiet until a certain date, like they did with the semi-finalist notification?

@helpfulandtrying I don’t think so. Supposedly the letter to the school will contain a certificate for the student. So why would they keep that quiet? For that matter, even the semi-finalist notifications weren’t supposed to be concealed from the students.

Still no letter today!

There are hundreds of congratulation messages if you search Twitter from official school accounts so there’s no way they’re supposed to keep it quiet… :frowning:

Finally got notification in California.

@Ballerina016 Congratulations! Were you notified by your school or are you home schooled?

By school

HS just tweeted the finalists in our suburban Houston area. Good news for DD!

Our high school is saying NMSC has strict rules about notification and the school can’t say anything until the student has been notified.

Got notification from school today down here in Texas

Suburban Houston too
