We also did the celebrating Xmas eve, agree it felt relaxed. Just D2 and SO, (D1 and hers visited his family.) We’ll all meet for lunch on Fri.
The only issue is this crazy cold weather. It’s early in the season to be in the 20s at night, going lower over the next week. And yes, my boiler is officially on the fritz. Getting replacement quotes, bah humbug. At least today’s tech cobbled it back together for now. I hope.
@BunsenBurner, someone moving out of my apartment building left several partially use rolls of holiday paper in our building recycling room several months ago. I snagged it and we had all new papers for free this year.
And @lookingforward, it SNOWED in Seattle on Christmas Eve. Kids were out having a blast in it at our nearby park on Xmas day. Snowmen, sledding, and snowball fights.
Lol, I am a queen of reusing gift bags and wrap, too. Kids know that paper used to wrap a large object inside it can be trimmed and successfully used to wrap a smaller object.
We still have snow at our place! That was unexpected and exciting!
And @lookingforward - we must have twins for boilers. Ours decided that it had to spring a leak on Christmas…
Our cat likes to stalk, attack, carry around, and chew up my socks. It is a constant battle to keep them away from him, and I have lost a handful of soldiers over the past year or so.
So my wife bought me socks for Christmas to replenish the ranks.
I told hubby I needed a new black wool coat because my current one is over twenty years old and the lining is ripped, etc. So he bought two from J Crew, a label I never, ever wear. One is hideous, and the other is nice, but has one sleeve longer than the other. As a bonus, J Crew threw in a monstrously ugly navy blue coat with anchor buttons, for free. They are all going back. Otherwise, I had some nice gifts, including an essential oil diffuser and a box of amazing oils.
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I personally am happy to bid good riddance to 2017. Happy 2018 everyone!
H got a nice tee shirt from my MIL, but it is a size medium (and he is a big guy). Coincidentally SIL (who is thin) got a pair of XL size sweatpants.
I think the mystery is solved.
Speaks of MILs. Mine sent our daughter a gift…but didn’t send our son a gift. This is the third year or so that has happened. She sends an email claiming she will be sending it a gift to DS later. Never does. It’s actually fine…because what she sends is thoughtful…but not useful.
This year, she sent DD a photo album engraved to out wedding pictures in. It’s nice…and DD might use if IF anyone sends her pictures…but really…we spent over $500 to get an album from the wedding photographer.
Do folks really use photo albums anymore?
DH and I got a swag to hang outside. That’s where it is.
Honestly…I wish she would use her money to DO things for herself.
@bookworm - the mystery was why H would receive a piece of clothing in size medium. MIL doesn’t have dementia, she is actually doing very well. She admits that she has bought gifts in the past and then forgotten where they were.
My kids do team gifts, often she shops and he gives her $ for his half, but he’s done his own before too. We lately do lists. Sometimes specific (with link to item at soandso.com) sometimes general (“any local restaurant gift card”). Sometimes each person chooses a charity they like and and we make a donation in their name.
This year was a nice one. S recently moved out (locally) and D is home before taking off for semester abroad, both of my siblings came to town, my mom and stepdad are healthy. We had some good dinners, played games, went shopping, to church on Xmas Eve, all in all a nice holiday.
MIL and SIL work in retail, so clothing is their go-to gift. My loot this year included one perfect fit and style, one really nifty style that doesn’t fit quite right but that MIL and I agree will probably work for DD, and one that I expect DD will snatch from me as soon as she sees it.
Mostly DH and I have been eating too much, visiting with family, and generally enjoying the warm Miami weather before heading north again tomorrow.
My kids had communication issues this year. I told D2 I wanted a rack to fit in my roasting pan. She told D1 I wanted a roasting pan. Fortunately D1 checked with me before purchasing!
Then I told D1 I coveted a little set of bowls with tops (prep bowls) for cooking. My friend invited me for dinner and had a set with all the final ingredients chopped & ready to go. We specifically discussed the tops. D1 talked to D2, and… I got a nice set of prep bowls without tops. Have the receipt and can easily return, though.
