@oceansquare Just read their posts. Seems like they all applied to Marshall and Dornslife.
@oceansquare Which UC did you apply from?
Don’t feel disappointed. USC does not give preference to CC. In other words, USC doesn’t care where you apply from.
I currently attend Pepperdine (a 4 year private university) and I still got accepted by UCSD (a UC that gives priority to CC).
@sagaciousforever I go to UC Davis! And god, I hope so. I just got rejected from Northwestern so not feeling the most confident.
@sagaciousforever I think I read somewhere that more than 50% of USC’s transfer students come from a CC so that’s why I was worried
@oceansquare I am sorry to hear that.
Northwestern is harder than USC, so don’t lose hope!
Also, 50 percent is not that many. You shouldn’t be bothered anyhow since there are not that many of us who applied from a 4 year university. The application pool for 4-year university applicants is way smaller than those from CC.
@sagaciousforever Thank you for your kind words. Is USC more holistic in their approach, do you think?
@oceansquare Yes, USC is very holistic. They want to see you as a good fit. If your profile is strong, that will compensate for a lower GPA. In past years threads, I see some people got into impacted/competitive majors with a 3.0-3.5 GPA.
@oceansquare You also have to keep in mind that the reason why the percentage is so high for CC students is because CC students HAVE to transfer to a four year university. The reason the rate is so low for those going to a four year is because there’s just less people wanting to leave. You definitely have a shot since like the others have said, USC doesn’t give preference to CC students like UCs.
A few answers:
Typical rollout is Marshall and Dornsife (which is happening), followed by Annenberg the next week, and Viterbi at least a week after that. Wouldn’t count on Viterbi till at least mid May, that has been typical. Can’t remember SCA, it’s a smaller program, so it’s harder to track those, but will check my notes from past years. This wave is exactly a week later than previous years.
To give you idea, this was last year 2018:
Marshall and Dornsife April 24-25
Annenberg May 1
Viterbi May 16 - 18
Financial Aid generally comes out within a week of acceptance.
A large batch of rejections comes out around May 23-24th, not sure if the apparent week delay that occurred this year will affect that.
There are still individual acceptances throughout the next couple months for all majors/schools, so don’t feel totally discouraged if not in this round. Until you get a rejection you are not out of the running, but ugh, I get the pain of waiting. And it is hard to see others accepted, while happy for them, it adds to your angst. But there are so many SGRs out there this year, so bound to be a lot of late notifications.
@sagaciousforever @GotYa55 Thank you both.
@CADREAMIN How about Price?
Hey guys!
I wonder if someone can help me. I received an update of my application and it says they needs “Gaps in educational history”, which I don’t have. Did anyone else receive this? What do I need to send?
Thank you @CADREAMIN!
Is there a general e-mail address I could shoot an e-mail to? I messaged my counselor saying that I got a job but she never got back to me. All of the other schools that I let know added it onto my file.
if i submit a mid term report this week (considering i have all A’s) would that change my decision in any way or is it pointless at this point
At this point a lot of counselors are not going to respond to emails - if you are just sending additional information, you are not likely to get a “received” reply back. They will add it to the file, but don’t take a non-response as meaning anything, they are processing what they have.
@CADREAMIN Do you know when Sol has released in previous years? Also how do rounds work exactly like would you expect more decisions to come out tomorrow & Friday for Marshall & Dornslife?
I got in!!
Dornsife, sociology
3.78 GPA at a small LAC in Washington state
4.0 HS GPA
2 letters of recommendation - 1 from a sociology prof, 1 from my boss at a local nonprofit organization
Rising junior, non-TTP
Got an email at 5:20pm
Congrats to everyone else who got accepted! Fight on!
@CADREAMIN so is the first Dornslife/Marshall wave only a couple days this week. Or does it last until Saturday or Sunday. Nervous Dornslife/Marshall applicant over here haha
ACCEPTED!!! Found out by e-mail, non-TTP, Narrative Studies!!! I can’t believe it.
also, I should add, around the same time they send out the batch of rejections in later May - they also send out other acceptances for most of the schools including Marshall, Dornsife, etc. So this is not the be all end all by any means.
